Cemetery Visit by digitalrn

Cemetery Visit

I had some extra time today, so with Independence Day approaching I decided to take a drive through our National Cemetery this afternoon. The grounds are so beautiful, and as you drive through it is a heart wrenching experience to see all the markers, and those visiting the resting place for their loved ones who have served our Country. I was trying to find the current interment population but was unable to do so. The most recent record I could find was the end of 2005. It was the final resting place for almost 30,000 service men and women. I'm sure by now the number is closer to 50,000.
Looks like a beautiful place to visit.

Very meaningful. So much sacrifice and how we take it for granted most of the time.

I echo your words, Rick! Nice clear focus to be able to read this so clearly! It would be great at night too - see the floodlight?

Love the beautiful wall and brickwork. Great shot.

What a shockingly high toll! For every one laid to rest there, there are multiples of individuals grieving for that loved one... It was good of you to remember and share this with us.

You have beautifully captured this entrance. Puts in perspective all those many we honor for their sacrifice.
