The Secret Society

The compass and the square, two of the symbols used by Freemasonry, a fraternal organization that traces its origins to the local fraternities of the stonemasons. From the end of the 14th century they regulated the qualifications of masons, and their interaction with authority and clients. Freemasonry is a beautiful system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated in symbols drawn from the manual tools of stonemasons. A moral lesson is attached to each tool. According to encyclopedia Britannica, Freemasonry is the teachings and practice of the secret fraternal order of Free and Accepted Masons, the largest worldwide "Secret Society." So much about Freemasonry is unknown to many, so it is often seen as evil, and it has been attacked by many organized religions, and labeled as such.
Nice discussion and great perspective on the ring.

@digitalrn Does one "seek" membership, or is membership by invitation-and-sponsorship only?
March 7th, 2014
@rhoing Things have changed over the years, and I think it varies in different areas, but it could be by inquiry or invitation
