I have been following a fellow South African, Leana Niemand for some time now and she is blowing me away with her sense of adventure, strength of character and love of life ... on her journey around the world ... on a bicycle. Her photos, attention to details and commentary make me feel I am with her all the way. I stand to be corrected - I believe she has clocked up more than 50 000kms!!!
For those of you who don't know Leana - take a peek at her album - she'll take you to places you can only dream about or she'll get you saving up for a ticket to 'go-where' ... and maybe a bike of your own.
Below is what she wrote on her profile ....
'In a moment of madness I sold almost all my possessions and set off by bicycle from my doorstep in Cape Town, South Africa. This was to become a trip around the world.
Here I am, amazingly 5 years later, and still going, and most of all, still loving it! I have no route plan, no sponsor, no goal, no mission of any sort!! I just go wherever the wind blows me. My pictures are of an embarrassingly poor quality, but everyone on this project is so complementary that I can (hopefully) only improve - bear with me!'
@leananiemand I hope you don't mind me spreading your news ... I'm loving every post and every country you visit and I thought non-followers were missing out. ;)
Three cheers to you Leana. Travel safe. Keep posting. Maybe one day, on a road somewhere, we can swop stories over a couple of beers.
My traveling mantra, I thought I'd share with you :) !!!

@thebluegnu - Nice one Blue Gnu, I have been following Leana for some time now and she is so inspirational! Hope she gets through the Pannama Immigration soon!
Oh my gosh. I have always wanted to find the courage to do something like that. I love to travel, and there are so many places I'd like to go. What an inspiration.
Wow, thanks for letting us all know about this. My son, who is 30, doesn't own a car and bikes or takes public transportation everywhere. He also hiked the AT in 2005 from Georgia to Maine. This girl is going to write a book I hope. Can't wait to read it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@thebluegnu Oh my dear!!! Thanks you very much!! I did not have internet for a few days so was pleasantly surprised to see you post, you a wee star! XXX
Thanks for sharing @thebluegnu .
