For those of you that would love to take street photo's but are too afraid of offending others take a look at this article For those of you that would love to take street photo's but are too afraid of offending others take a look at this article
http://www.digital-photography-school.com/getting-close-and-personal-11-tips-for-close-up-candid-street-photography as it gives great advice on how to appear inconspicious when taking a street photo. It also shows great examples. I for one will try out this new approach of shooting from the hip as it makes a change from using a tilting LCD to make myself less obvious.

Sounds like a fun idea, Cindy...will read the article to get some tips. Thanks, I'm thinking that would be a great theme sometime!

Good article! I did a street shoot last night, and in fact yesterday's photo for the day was shot "at the hip". It certainly works!

Thanks for posting this Cindy, I've taken a few London shots "from the hip". Tried it in Leeds but didn't work so well. Maybe I was more confident in London, even from the hip, so many more people about!

maybe we should have a shooting from the hip theme for a week in addition to the usual weekly theme - what do people think?

"The moments are flying around everywhere, but you need to be there and be bold with your camera to be able to catch them. Now get in there and get close!"

......arrrrghh now those words are the motivation I needed! ...tomorrow I`ll go out and take a BUNCH of street photography and I`ll make a HUGE collage of STRANGERS and upload it here!

@spaceman I look forward to seeing this inspirational collage! I will hopefully do the same :-)

I've done a lot of shooting from the hip, it's good to capture the every day. I was trying to be surreptitious once and when I pressed to take the shot the red light came on and strobed in my 'victims' face. Needless to say she did not look impressed!

Well done...you have same great shots in this lot. Lets see if anyone else comes up with something today! @spaceman

@spaceman PS I had a hard time shooting from the hip as it felt really awkward and I wasn't sure what I shooting...if anything. I still continued to take street shots but in my usual way of using the tilting LCD.

@cindy

You`re lucky you have a tilting LCD. But I guess I wouldn` t use it anyways,because I don`t use LiveView any more,not on my DSLR. ...Yes,I fellet awkward,too,since it was my first hip-shoot (?) ... and if you think my shot`s are great? Only about 30 percent of my shots came out watchable,and each of these shots are extreme-crops of bigger one. Each of these individual photos are about 50 kb in size,wich is ridiculous. Also,my camera has a pretty difficult grip,to hold and blindly aim from such a low angle.
But hey ,there`s a start for everything.
