I don't know if anyone has had a chance to see this yet, but I thought it was a little scary to be honest, what some people do to their kids for a picture!
@msk1p2
I would love to hold one, but dont want to encourage people that use animals for our amusment, so it may not happen for me. This is a great shot, it that your python having lunch?
This is my snake shot... I love the tongue action.
The first shots of the kids with the snake... they are scared and should be taken away.... the second shot, I wonder if he was just unhappy about getting his photo taken... I remember taking my son for a portrait session when he was two, we were there for 45mins and we got only 2 shots where he was not crying...
I’m fine with snakes, but I don’t understand why someone would insist that their child get a picture taken with one. Especially a large one. People do strange things.
@cookie123 No, he is a resident at the World Bird Sanctuary. While the WBS is home to more than 200 birds, primarily raptors, the Nature Center does have a few other species on hand for visitors to learn about. Kahn lives in the Nature Center in an enclosure of his very own. He's fed after hours due to the very dramatic and sometimes scary way Pythons eat. He's also only handled by staff.
I think sometimes the kids think they are a little braver than they really are once they figure out the snakes actually have a mind of their own and move around.... That little guy just looks mad to be there, he may be a little young for the whole big snake thing. We have a little corn snake - and I can't tell you how many kids think they want to hold her until we actually get her out of the tank - don't think it is worth it to scare the poor kids just for a photo/ and stress out the snake/
Well, that first image almost looks posed to me...like the boy is making the face "expected" of such a pose. But who knows. The kid in the second pic? Well, I've seen kids that age scream just because they wanted an ice cream cone, so I'm not sure this was as traumatic as it might seem.
I find snakes pretty amazing, really. I have a healthy respect for them, especially if they have noise makers on their tails. But during my years of delivering mail, I actually "held" a snake for a patron who needed to sign for a letter. This happened twice and I found it really cool to have the snake inch up one arm, around the back of my neck and then back "home to daddy" from my other arm.
I do like snakes though as evidenced by these recent posts of my own!
I'm not petrified by them, but I give them their space :)

I don't love them, but I do have one in my project that I stumbed across while hiking.
Wow, I actually have two.

But, admittedly, I'm pretty weird.
