I got my first DSLR recently and so I decided to take up this project (the 4th try now, but I won’t give up until I manage to complete it at least once...). I’ve been into this hobby since 2009, but to be honest, no one ever really sincerely criticized me. My family and friends only say, what they think I want to hear, but that doesn’t help me to improve. Could you give me some advice/critique that may be helpful for the rest of my Project 365? As long as it is helpful, I don’t mind if it is rough or harsh...
@cluvlj Thank you for your advice. I added that tag and followed more people, who inspired me. I’ll start commenting tomorrow too, don’t know if I really know enough about photography to criticize others though.
@lilystar Don't criticize people or offer critiques or what-have-you unless they specifically ask for it - it's sort of an unwritten 365 rule. The vibe around here tends to be positive support and encouragement, so you really have to make it clear that you'd like critique on your pictures. Even then, to be honest, you may not get the art-school-type of critique that I think you're after, although you will get lots of helpful advice, tricks, etc. Just interact with others, get to know folks, participate in challenges, themes, etc., and the rest will fall into place. Sometimes people seem to think critiquing has to mean "what's bad" comments. If you pay attention to what the good comments are, if they are specific, they can help too. If someone says "I like the light" try and figure out what you did differently.
Stephanie. I am new to this too.I love taking pics and oly got my DSLR june last year. Everyone here is really nice and give great thoughts on pics you take and it is also fab to help give you inspiraton. Wll follow you and look forward to your pics.
