I like the washed-out feel as well, but I would have pushed the flag just a bit more into the upper right corner; my eye wants to follow the pole up to the flag and drift left, but when it does I am met immediately with the edge of the frame.
I love all pictures of the Flag against the sky. I think it is a great picture. I love the flag is flying full. It seems I always have trouble to get the full flag flying.
Welp, Aaron beat me to the punch again, but if you put a rule of thirds or golden ratio grid over this, you have the stars centered and the flag pole isn't in line with any of the grid lines. Like he said, if you push the flag pole little more up and right that would put the pole in line with the right grid line or ( a little better IMO) put the stars right at (or near so you don't cut off the top of the pole and flag) the intersection of the far right and top grid line, that is usually a "sweet spot".
Most editing programs have this type of grid overlay in the crop menu.
Yes! I really like it. The only thing i would do is maybe make the flag a little sharper and perhaps fiddle with the straightening tool. But yes, yes, a very good shot!

Heres the edited one! how does it look??
I think the first captures the red, white, & blue with a lovely nostalgic feel. The second's composition really holds visual interest.
Thanks guys soo much!!
