critique please - sinister?

May 30th, 2013
Hi here's my latest effort showing my son. The idea was as the title says was to show a sad last to be bought/chosen item.

I showed it to my bezzie before posting who said it looked a little dark and sadistic?

What you think?

All critique good and bad welcomed.

I want to get better!!

Thanks all hope your having a great day!

Jeff

Well, I don't think it's "dark", it does convey a meaning....consumerism?? (we can buy almost everything, clothes and stuff, even children! everything has a price tag). Well this was what came to mind while writing my comment, I don't know your real intention.

@mara19500 thanks Mara I think 'consumerism' would have been a great title. I did want to convey the dejection in something or someone who has not been chosen / bought.

Thanks for your comment :)

I don't think it's sinister, it certainly raises lots of questions. I agree with @mara19500 about consumerism too and the feeling of not being good enough. I love it

i dont think its sinister at all, its a very interesting picture, some may question the use of a child? I think its great that more "controversial" type pictures are featured on 365

I think it's very interesting. I do agree with the consumerism comments and you did well to convey dejection. I was wondering if empty hangers on either side would help the "one not chosen" idea or just clutter up the image (the composition is great as is).

@lkread I think the extra hangers idea would have looked great! Wish I'd thought of that!

Cool idea, I wish I could store my kids like that :-)

Very interesting idea and thought provoking. Without the title I would have interpreted this as a commentary on the objectification of children. Dark -yes, controversial - yes, sinister - no, exploitative - no. As a commentary - excellent.
