With all the partial words, the lights, colors & composition it gives me the feeling of being in a busy carnival like place...where I am from like the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore. I like it.
I think it is the dentist sign that throws it off a bit, but short of climbing up there and removing it, I don't know that there was much to be done there :)
I really like the photo, but I see what you mean about something not feeling quite right. I think it's the erd and white sign in the bottom left, cos it catches the corner of my eye and sort of pulls it away from the rest of the image.
i am not a professional, but i know what i personally like when i see a photo - i like this photo, but it is a tad too busy for me.
my only suggestion - or something that i would do if it were my photo - is to remove all of what is going on on the right side in Photoshop (or other editing program) so that the right side is all black and the left would be holding all of the power in the image.
other than that, i like it :o)
Thanks for the suggestion! I might try to head back down to Bathhurst to take another photo and this time...actually try to compose it as oppose to walking and shooting lol
The reason my eye doesn't want to stay on the picture for longer than 5 seconds is because there isn't a "subject". The subject doesn't have to me centered or even entirely in the frame, but there should be one. In this case it's just bright shiny lights and letters which get boring quick.
I know I have no reason to justify it, but I kind of liked the shiny lights because to me it shows a sort of carnival-esque feel which sort of the feel you get from "Honest Ed's" (discount store).
There are too many various levels of light and brightness and color intensity, so it feels like a collage, not a real dark night scene lit by the main subject. The signs are kind of fighting for dominance.
@Travis - Yea it was a pretty busy body photo...bvut that's what I liked about it :P @Vori - I agree. I keep meaning to go back and try to retake it in a spot that doesn't show the dentist sign but I don't get down to Toronto v. often
Thanks for the comments!

Sorry, it doesn't help much - just wanted to say I liked it lol!
I love Honest Ed's...it's like, a landmark in Toronto...a carnival like landmark that screams bargain discounts lol
I like the photo too but there's something about it that's...doesn't feel right? I dunno.
Thanks again
I like it, too.

If I do go back, I'll try to find a subject
Great colors and perspective though.
