Hi Mary,

I like your idea for the first picture and the composition of the curtain and the way you're sitting. However I think the white pvc bar of your window is distracting. Is there another angle you could take it from which would prevent the reflections in the bottom right corner? Finally I think that you are too dark in the picture, if you have a way of lightening your face and dress (either through different lighting or afterwards in post processing)I think it would improve it a lot.

For the 2nd photo again I like the idea and composition, the eyes are a wonderful bright blue but the focus appears (to me, otehrs may correct me!) to be slightly off and os focussed more on the lollipop/front strands of hair reather than the eyes and face.
Final little suggestion is the girls right (as I look at it) shoulder is raised, if she had it in a more natural position it would balance the photo more.

@emmar84

Thanks for the tips.

i wish i could do something with the pvc bar in the window but cant find a way without ruining the picture.

i kinda like the reflections but i agree that it is on the dark side.

how could i alter the focus to the eyes from the lollipop?
and thanks for the hint with the shoulder

like th first one, agree with emma about the upvc bar, maybe use another window,

the second photo, i'd get rid of what looks like ipod wires, i find that more ditracting than the shoulder, maybe dull the lollipop colours down a little

I like them. Are they selflies? I know how hard selfies can be! Depending on what you use for post processing, there's still some things you can do. For example, in the top photo, I would probably blur the trees in the background. It could direct the photo more to the main subject.
On the second photo, I would bring the saturation down just a bit, especially on the sucker. Then if you could brighten just the whites of the eyes, they would really pop. Just don't overdo it haha.
If you use photoshop, I could give you some pointers.

I really like the position of the gal in the first photo. I agree with the window bar, and maybe blur the background more, that might help with the bar. I like the reflection and the curtain in the composition.
On the second one I agree with focusing on the lollipop more. For me the eyes are too much or too blue, they give me an eery feeling.
The first one I like better.

At the risk of overkill- the window bar in the first one is an unfortunate obstacle you have to work with. So, my thought is embrace it and make it a part of the picture rather than trying to diminish it. I'd take the shot in black and white and have the girl's hands on it while looking out the window- just a thought/idea. As for the second picture, I'm not sure what to focus on- her dynamic blue eyes, or the tasty lollipop (which looks to be what the camera focused on). So in my mind, you must decide which one you want to emphasize and adjust the angle accordingly. If it's the lollipop, the shot should be taken slightly higher (and if you punched up the color of her eyes, then bring the color back down). If it's her eyes, then more straight forward with less of the pop showing. I don't mind the shoulder "shrug", but the wires are a little distracting against the horizontal lines of the shirt. All that being said, I really like the second shot- she's very pretty, has beautiful eyes and a nice smile! (And the lollipop looks pretty yummy too!)

I think in both lollipop photos, the girl's skin tone is off. She almost looks cold to me. In the window photo, the skin tone is nice. Perhaps it's from when you make changes to make the eyes more blue.

i think you did a good job! especially on the sucker and eyes! and i really like how you brightened yourself up in the window photo, and fixed the distraction. you did a really good job on that, i know it's hard to remove something from a photo.

in the future, i would suggest to keep your clothing a little more simple. patterns can be a little distracting. and you have blue eyes like me, so wear purple. that really makes blue pop!

@sweett

thank you - ill try and remember that....although im not sure i own much purple :)

Looks about the same to me. Is there a way you can isolate and brighten just the eyes? Do the eyes need to be that blue? What so they look like before editing?
July 22nd, 2011
both are a lot better,
i'd just chill the blue of the eyes down a little
July 22nd, 2011
i might have been able to- but all i did for the eyes was up the contrast a little.

will have to check myself on that for next time.

its a busy picture that you have edited. The shirt is dramatic, the sucker is dramatic and the eyes are dramatic. This photo to me has alot of sex appeal. I think the focus should be on one thing, the lips and the sucker, the eyes or the wild side of your personality, with the striped shirt. Good luck creating your selfie, afterall only you can tell us who you are threw your picture
