lens help?

January 6th, 2012
I've had my Canon T2i (550D) for about 6 months, and I'm looking into getting another lens, but I still feel so lacking in knowledge about lenses.
I got a hand-me-down 50mm compact-macro the time I got the camera, and almost never take it off. When I do, it's to the 18-55mm the camera came with, mainly to get further away from the subject. But I really don't like the thing at all, and end up deleting those shots.
I've looked around and read some reviews and old discussions, and I'm drawn to the 28-135mm, but still seem unsure, so I figured I'd ask the lovely community here.
I tend toward low apature and nature photos, if that helps any.
Thanks!

Want to add some confusion to your photographic life... give this a read (from Trey Ratcliff's stuckincustoms.com http://www.stuckincustoms.com/2012/01/04/dslrs-are-a-dying-breed-3rd-gen-cameras-are-the-future/

@myla I guess how much money do you want to spend and what type of photography do you intend to use it for? The faster the lens (lower f stop) the more $$$ you will pay.

Nature photo is very broad. Some would say you need a macro, some would say you need a longer lens. :)

I have the 55-250IS lens which I love using for wildlife or when I am at the zoo. I also have a hand-me-down 70-300mm, but I prefer having the image stabilization. Also, there is surprisingly little difference between 250mm and 300mm. Sure, there are better lenses out there, but I am on a budget, so no f/2.8 for me.

If you want to do macro photos and money is an issue, then I would suggest a $10 reverse-macro adapter for your 18-55mm. Here is some more info on that:

@agima $$, the al important factor (which i forgot to mention). Since I'm relatively new to a DSLR, I'd like to keep it on the lower end.
I guess since I don't really know what I'm looking for, something that has a decent range (hence the 28-135)
@onarom the 55-250 is one that I was debating. I've been meaning to get a reverse adapter.
thanks both of you for your input.

@myla depends on what kind of photos you want to take. The majority of the time I have my 18-200mm lense on. For really sharp macros with great DOF the 100mm is fabulous :-) Good luck with the lense shopping :-)

I dont know a lot about lenses either. My camera came with the 28-135 and it is what I use most of the time. I also have a 100mm macro which I use all the time for close up nature shots. I also have a 70-300 zoom that I rarely use. My next lens is going to be a wide angle.
