@jasonbarnette That's what I was thinking!! If my Pentax and Mamiya had a baby it would be this cam. The Mamiya lenses will fit it and it's lighter than my Mam and in better shape than my Pentax. I think Imma gonna do it. :)
@sdpace Dude, Goodwill!! You have to go like a crazy person - I go all the time. All my cams are thrift, except the Rollei. This one was above my normal price range but I think it'll be worth it.
Absolutely! I wore out one Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic using it as a general purpose shooter for 10 years. When I loaded the 2855th roll of film and hit the film advance everything just stopped! Picked up a good Spotmatic II body, at that time, for 100.00 and kept on shooting. The Super Takumar line of lenses, when tested on the bench at the studio were, for the most part, comparable to both the Nikkor and in some cases the Leica lens. Grab this up in a skinny minute!
Asahi Pentax isn't the pentax baby it's the pentax parent. The lens alone, yada yada, you've already heard it. So the tech is it takes Praktica/pentax lens mount, M42 i think - which are super cheap lenses you'll get the whole frickin range for $50. But the mercury battery is discontinued so you'll have to find a bettery that fits it for the light meter, there will be one I reckon maybe expensive. Whooop!!
Thought I'd pipe in, Shelly. My answer...it depends.
I'd love to have a Spotmatic, personally. The lens, in itself, is great...if it is not trashed. Some questions...how much, if any of the coating has decayed? Is there any mold around the edges? Either of these make the lens, in my opinion, worthless.
@chewyteeth You are correct that the mercury batteries are no longer available, unless you have specific Military clearance (in the US).
While replacement batteries are available, it is recommend that you adjust the metering manually (in your head) 1/3 - 2/3 stop on the lens to compensate.
In the US, you will always find them here:

So, it is based on the condition. Just a thought.
