What do you actually do on 365?

January 19th, 2012
Like really.

I'll start.

I always log in, and check my comments, then I usually comment on who comments on mine that day. Then I skim down my pretty concentrated list of people who I actually love and I try to comment on a few everyday. I look at the discussions and comment on threads which have a sense of humour, and ignore threads which are repeated every few days like - show us someone who's underated, or what do you think about processing pics.

Finally I never look at the popular page. Like never (is that strange?). I never do themes or follow weekly stuff. Never look at or do WWYD challenges. just doesn't interest me.
I often look at the new faces page though, I like the new, the different - not just the same old same old. I do eventually stop commenting on people who don't comment on mine at least now and again, and I delete people who haven't uploaded a pic for more than 6 or so weeks.

So what's your secret process when you log in of a night? What on the website does it for you and what just leaves you cold?
January 19th, 2012
i just sit and marvel at my own photos, usually by using the magnifying glass.
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace : D
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace Ooops, and I sometimes search boobs...I forgot to mention that! @pwallis
January 19th, 2012
pretty much everything you just said, Dave.. although i've dabbled in a couple of the WWYD challenges.

i also try to find fresh material to masturbate to but often times find absolutely nothing so my fingers reluctantly trudge back over my mouse to click back onto redtube and/or spankwire.

this site needs more nude men!

there. i said it.
January 19th, 2012
Checking new photos from the people I follow, waiting for some critics, comments... :)
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth it would be weird if you didn't search the boobs tag every day. You could miss new boobs.
Right now I don't really have a formula since I'm SO far behind on everything - it's just kind of hit or miss for me right now - I try and view and comment as much as time allows for, but I don't have a lot of that recently.
In year one I had a super strict regimen of upload in the morning, comment to everyone who'd commented on my shot the day before, and then if I had time - scroll my newsfeed for things that catch my eye. Then if I wasn't busy in the evening I'd spend some time chatting in discussions and checking out themes etc.
Now I have no regimen at all and I much prefer it that way, although I still feel guilt when I get behind on some of my fave peeps shots:(
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace II marvel at Stacy's photos and try to FAV them and then it asks me if I really want to remove the photo from my favorites because I already FAV'd it. Which puts me in an endless loop of FAVing and Un_FAVing just so I can FAV again. Keeps me pretty busy.
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace @hamptanner I spend most of what little time I have marvelling at Stacy's shot under the magnifier and then not commenting because I feel that, when it comes right down to it, I'm not worthy.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth Of course, I also try to squeeze in a little Marx bashing as well. ;-)
January 19th, 2012
I take a quick glance at my news feed to see what my peeps have posted since last I checked. Then, I look at the discussions, to see if anyone has said anything interesting or started any dramz. That usually doesn't take long, so then I go through my notifications, and thank people for their comments, except for the people who don't like that, and them I thank twice.

I look at the Popular Page, but only to see if my friends have made it, so that I can let them know, because half of them don't pay attention. I like to do the Weekly Themes on occasion - Top 5 in Photobomb, huzzah! I also do the Tag Challenges every once in awhile - I get tags every week but I generally forget to do it. :) I do WWYD sometimes.

Oh, and I do regular searches for pictures involving Star Wars, Doctor Who, dandelions, and naked Englishmen.
January 19th, 2012
@hamptanner you just described my favorite nightmare.

@pwallis thank god. you should really get some more experience before critiquing my amazing photos. i mean, really? do you think your eyes work as well as mine?

note to nooobs: sarcasm. learn it. own it.
January 19th, 2012
i actually stay logged in most of the day....reading discussions....start to type comments to add to discussions...but then delete them
i check to see if anyone that i follow posted anything new and then i try to come up with something clever to write as a comment, type stuff in and then delete it...

oh, and i obsessively check my pictures to see if i've gotten any more views
i so desperately crave the praise of strangers *sigh*
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace as @beautifulthing is well aware, I am completely retarted in comparison when it comes to critiquing your work. One day I may feel slightly less retarted and then will work up the gumption to post a "Cool shot!" comment on one of yours.
January 19th, 2012
@dkg i totally dig your honesty!

@sdpace LOVE

i feel i'm really behind on a lot of pics, too... you cats with ACE memberships and multiple photos... man, i can barely keep up with you guys!!
January 19th, 2012
@grecican It has been pointed out to me, in the past, that I might post excessively. I try not to, but I have a lot of feelings. And, let's face it, I'm about as funny as all outside. This little light of mine, I have to let it shine. I don't expect anyone to comment on everything. Just the awesome stuff. And the funny stuff. And the post-ironic meta stuff.
January 19th, 2012
@pwallis It's a good thing you're so cute, or you'd never get by.
January 19th, 2012
@dkg
If that's true I love you, if its sarcasm I love you still. I love you!
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth Get a room, you two, with all that love getting flapped around all over the place. :D
January 19th, 2012
@beautifulthing Love should never flap. I don't wanna see that.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth a little from column a, a little from column b.....
January 19th, 2012
@grecican

Dude, 365 is pretty dry in that respect, I don't think it's gonna change so better get your kicks on other sites. If I thought it would make your evenings any more satisfying I'd oblige and drop my keks, but it wouldn't. It would just get an angry Ross deleting my posts and the Christians would be making threads about me for the next ten years.
January 19th, 2012
And I love that you let me have three semi-serious responses to my heart-felt thread before you dropped the masturbation bomb. @grecican Good job I wasn't actually intregued by what other 365ers do behind the scenes.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth 365 is pretty dry in a lot of respects.

dry as menopause.
January 19th, 2012
@grecican you poet you - but I already knew that. ;)
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth hahahahahahaahaa
January 19th, 2012
@dkg I follow! Since you're just sitting commenting, you can comment on mine!! Also I love your Nikon cake!!
January 19th, 2012
To answer Dave's original question... Since I am new, I am still pretty excited about this place and hope that holds up. I spend way too much time looking at photos. Commenting on them and then commenting on the commenters of my own photos. I lurk in the forums when I am not browsing photos. I peruse the site on my laptop when I am seated doing nothing or little else. Later at night, I peruse the site on my iPad in between team deathmatches on Call of Duty MW3 (which is new since Christmas and I totally suck). I peruse the site from my iPhone when I am walking the dog in the morning and at night. It's ridiculous, really. But, I am here to challenge myself and to push myself to develop a better eye for composition and to try things that are new to me and my camera. Seeing what others are doing serves as inspiration. Reading the forums serves as comic relief mostly but sometimes there is a little collateral knowledge transfer.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth thanks for the follow! i follow back
i'll see what i can do about the commenting...i can't make any guarantees....nor can i guarantee that the comments will be any good....
January 19th, 2012
@hamptanner
Thanks dude, the women have the habit of turning threads into slanging matches. I just started it because I realised how much I love somethings on here and how much other things like the popular page and the themes and tags etc don't interest me at all.
January 19th, 2012
oh sorry....i didn't realize you REALLY wanted to know what we do.

well, i never "log in" because I'm always logged in. I check my frans pages, i check my recent activity feed, i check the PP so I can congratulate my frans for getting there for the first time evah, i check for voting threads, i check for "please help me" threads that I can maybe weigh in on, i check my notifications, i check to see if there's someone still on the site with an account that probably should be deleted, and then i upload my pics. :)
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace
How do you search (not that I'll do it) for peeps who should be deleted?
If you ever see any suspect shit happening please let me know.
Thanks for your proper answer.
January 19th, 2012
with year two I am doing the challenges each week to try and make this different. I check my notifications, check out how amazing my photos are like @sdpace shoot the shit with random comments on photos, stalk all those named paula @pwallis and pauls I wait for @beautifulthing to let me know I made it to the pp since if I look I will obsess about it. I wonder why my awesome photo still cannot make the top five of any stupid theme. I try to comment on those I follow and peruse the people who are not active so I can drop them, and then try and figure out why my damn magnifier does not work on my laptop like it does on my desk top. Oh and I participate in the random discussion threads so I can get new followers and end up on the pop page. @grecican I will now do a week of photos based on hot men in stages of undress to make your time here more rewarding. Oh it seems I participate in the bullying of strangers when I comment that I do not like a particular thing in photos. Awesome
January 19th, 2012
@brumbe hey my magnifier doesn't work on my laptop either! SO annoying! Also - I just booked my flight:)
January 19th, 2012
@brumbe thank you, Paula... my life will have some meaning. finally.
January 19th, 2012
@pwallis I have to do that at the end of the week. I was trying to sell Ed on coming to SF for a few days prior but he is not making a decision..

Oh and I meant to say I check out @sdpace to see her watermark alone and get real sassy and sarcastic with others.
January 19th, 2012
@grecican so our photo field trip will be asian market, cooking and the all male review. I see people wanting to come to D.C. for this trip.
January 19th, 2012
@pwallis @brumbe
hey I only have a laptop and my magnifyer only shows the top half of a pic!! Grrr!
January 19th, 2012
@brumbe well at least for the asian market if nothing else....
January 19th, 2012
I browse the discussion threads and my posse's photos and look for opportunities to be as obtuse as possible.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth one of them is well known...so i just look to see.

otherwise, this community is pretty astute at recognizing ripped off photos (you can check a photo you might think is plagiarized using tineye.com)...and anything that you might come across when searching for boobies or knobs that may be questionable (ie porn instead of art). in both of these situations, its best to email Ross...NOT start a discussion thread.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth I know! It sucks balls.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth F11 when you magnify :)
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace that doesn't work on mine for some reason
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace you're shitting me!
Why did nobody tell me that like 13 months ago!!
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth @pwallis if you can't see the whole thing that way, you can still hit F11, then hold down CTRL and scroll your mouse scroller - pull it back toward you like "scroll down" and the screen magnification will get smaller, but you can see the whole picture.
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace
well know?
I'll search boobs and knobs sure, but every time I tineye something 'too-cool' it never hits! Once I did it and it matched like a thousand, and I said to the girl in comments, hey you're not supposed to use pics you found on google images, and she stopped following me!! bitch. I really can't spare the followers, you know what I mean. so now I turn a blind eye.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth I am not familiar with the WWYD and tag challenges though I suppose I could easily figure it out if I was so moved. I did submit something yellow for last week's theme and I imagine I will do themes if they jibe with things I want to do anyway. I am looking forward to the film challenge - as you already know.

@sdpace I forgot to add that I write painfully long narratives about some of my photos. I like to bore. I pretend that everyone finds me fascinating like this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U18VkI0uDxE and this guy: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=484F058C3EAF7FA6 if they mated and had a grown ass man-child. Be warned, if you click the second link, you will waste a lot of time.
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace ahhh, I just tried it again and my laptop lost it's mind - screen jumping up and down all over the place - BUT - it worked this time:) Tanks, lady:)
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth well don't turn a blind eye, for sure. report them to Ross....that kind of thing isn't allowed here, especially if they are using someone else's work as their own.
January 19th, 2012
@hamptanner hehe that second guy IS the awesome.
As for the WWYD threads...they last about a week. It's a little competition that I started a year ago (Jaydee posted a happy anniversary WWYD thread that made me laugh) Basically, whoever won the last challenge gets to post a photo, and you do whatever you want to it - some people enhance it like they would if it were their own work, and some people photoshop the hell out of it. The poster gets to pick their favorite 5 or 6, and everyone who is interested can vote...the winner starts it all over again. :)
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace
Ahhh I get it, you're not like searching for entertainment to goggle at stuff we shouldn't be seeing, you're like hunting people down for Ross. That's cool too, but I thought you were just trying to see some mad stuff.
The f11 trick works perfect for me, I feel like I wanna go round 365 now and look at all the pics I ever looked at all over again. but I won't.
January 19th, 2012
@sdpace Got it. Lately, I have been too distracted by WWTD - What Would Tebow Do.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth haha i don't hunt them down, silly....most of them are "found" on the PP or the new faces pages.
January 19th, 2012
@grecican If you can lose one syllable, you will have a haiku. FWIW.
January 19th, 2012
365 is a pinned tab in my browser.

Usually, when I check the site, I check to see if I have new notifications first. If I do, it gives me a warm, glowing feeling. If I don't, I feel a strange, bitter despair bubbling up within me.

Then I scan the feed of people I follow, and comment on any pictures that stand out, or that make me really want to say something.

Then I look for interesting titles in the "Latest" Discussions. Opportunities to make stupid or inappropriate jokes are especially welcome. Yet more threads asking "how do I get more followers?!?!" are especially unwelcome.

Then I go back to my own project page, and reply to anyone who's been generous enough to leave a comment on one of my photos.

Things I don't do include (but are not limited to):
- Look at the popular page.
- Take part in weekly themes. (I did do a few, in my first year, but I'm not good enough so what's the point?)
- WWYD challenge. (I like the idea of it, and maybe I will do one in the future, but overall, I'd rather experiment with the editing on one of my photos than on someone else's.)
- Take any Discussion thread too seriously.
- Make any attempt to keep up with cliques or weirdness.
January 19th, 2012
@chewyteeth I will follow you now to make up for the followers you cannot spare. I promise I use all my own photos no matter how awful they may be
January 19th, 2012
Amy
I do pretty much the same thing. I log in and make the black speech bubbles go grey... then I look at my home page thread and then, if I haven't seen someone in a while or someone else did a massive upload and clogged my feed, I'll pop over to a few people and just wander around to see what I might have missed.

I don't go to the popular page because it's always the same type of shots and I find that boring really. No offense to any who have been there, I've been on a few times too, but I just prefer the "new faces" thread and I try to wander around and say hello on there instead.
January 19th, 2012
@manek43509
I'm with you on all points.
January 19th, 2012
@pprmntmochamama
Yeah I can't remember when I stopped checking the PP, it was around the time of that little ginger kitten being on the frickin thing every day, so I stopped and I never turned back and occassionally I peek and it's ten kittens and a sunset so I keep away again for a few weeks. x
January 19th, 2012
@zanoskar I like your profile pic - quite similar to my pug/human selfie, no?
January 20th, 2012
Amy
@chewyteeth ~ I remember that... I think we both gave up on it around the same time... oh and the small break out of stolen images being passed off as their own making it to the PP was the last nail in the coffin for me.
January 20th, 2012
@pwallis Yeeeea it really is! My other half is frenchie. :) Like it! :P
January 20th, 2012
@pprmntmochamama
I was oblivious of that I think, was it publicised? What were the images like?
January 20th, 2012
@pwallis I like how you made yur noses the same......or is that a happy accident?
January 20th, 2012
@pwallis I'd like to see a photoshop fancy version where you morph one head into another - and make like a mutant from the two!! Do it!
January 20th, 2012
@chewyteeth I have become more sarcastic as of late in my project, so my comments on threads have become less sunshine and rainbows.... I peruse the threads, help if I can....usually not. If I know the answer 9 times out of 10 it's because it's fairly easy and @sdpace has already beat me to it! Check my notifications and check in on the people I make sure to keep up with on the regular. Check my feed for eye catching photos and shoot the shit with whomever I happen to catch while I'm on here. Not necessarily in that order and usually more than one of those at a time.
January 20th, 2012
@chewyteeth my friend actually does that as part of his photography business. He morphs couples faces together or owners with their pets and people LOVE it! Can't remember how much he charges for that.
@shadesofgrey pretty much a happy accident, if I recall correctly. That shot still weirds me out.
January 20th, 2012
Amy
@chewyteeth ~ Oh goodness, it was about this time last year. I don't remember exactly what the images were - for some reason the famous kiss from Life magazine is poking my brain. There were another couple that people had found through a Tin Eye search... I only remember that because I discovered Tin Eye through that whole fiasco... lol.
January 28th, 2012
@sdpace @pwallis @grecican @dkg @hamptanner @beautifulthing @manek43509 @brumbe @zanoskar @shadesofgrey @pprmntmochamama

Oh, I forgot, I occassionally play what you might call the 'FAV game'. Where I browse somones favs and pick the best pic, then whoevers profile opens I browse their favs and pick the best and use that to see new profiles. Is that just me? Of course by picking the best picture amongst members favs I eventually find my way back to my own project! :)
January 28th, 2012
@chewyteeth i do that also. :)
January 28th, 2012
@chewyteeth not just you but well worth trying. I will actually be home bound for a few weeks coming up and I will do that once a day.
January 29th, 2012
@chewyteeth @sdpace @brumbe I remember a thread early last year that had you go to your third fav (or follower), go to that person's third, and then pick one from that persons album to showcase.....or am I high and imagining that?
