Offline Processing App for MacBook

I had been happily using Picnik, but since effectively 'leaving home' and going 3G wifi, my memory is being swallowed, and many photos not saving despite upload, process, etc, so am on the look out for a decent, cheap offline application for Macbook.

Am sure I could research, but unfortunately, I simply ain't got the GBs left for much:-(

I should add i am rather simple and have heard of Gimp but it sounds rather complex, so anything relatively easy would be great.

I know I dont want much:-)

Taa muchly.

Aperture is cheap, effective and easy to use.. You can buy plug ins as you need to add in such HDR apps, presets and filters, etc.

Hasselblad has a free Lightroom-esque program. It won't read standard raw files (at least, last time I looked) but if you do shoot raw you can always grab Adobe's free raw converter and convert your shots to TIF first (TIF is a type of raw file, if left uncompressed). Incidentally, it is a lot like Lightroom because Adobe helped develop the software for them.

I use Aperture and sometimes Pixelmator which are in app store. There are some cheapo HDr processors in app store but am now using Hydra plug in for aperture. There are lighting presets which can be bought relatively cheaply. I only choose ones that interest me. There are a number of other plug in applications. I'll dig out names for you when I can get back on computer (on iPad now) as am reprinting study. Generally refuse to use adobe products as are over priced. found early versions of GiMP hard to use on Mac.

@jinximages Taa muchly - I will check this out as shooting RAW seems a little OTT for what I want to achieve just now so this may suit me. Need to work out what RAW is and do a little more research, for now I just want some happy snaps with the ability to tidy them up so perhaps this Hasselblad is for me. Free is a good start at least.

I've heard very good things from many people regarding http://www.pixelmator.com/

Also Picasa from Google is OK for photos, not great for custom editing tho.

I love Aperture and use it for 99.9% of my processing - you can extend Aperture with plugins like Topaz and Nik for extra effects, but it does most of what I need out of the box.

@clarek , Claire, I use Aperture too and really like it. I was able to get a 30 day trial.....maybe that is still available so you could give it a try? @5unflow3r, uses pixelmator I believe, so perhaps she could give you feedback on it.

for special editing (ie vintage, grunge, etc) I love snapseed, which I have been using on my iphone and found out that has a mac app - as I recently paid for piknik, I purchased this last night, knowing that i will get my premium membership from piknik back...

Snapseed really does create amazing images...stayed up far too late last night playing around with it

@paulaag How were you able to get a 30-day trial? I would love to be able to try it before I spend the $80 .... Thanks!

Nik Software's Snapseed gets my vote too.

@sweetmommyof3 , i was using iphoto and i believe that is where i got the link for the free trial. i've been using aperture since March, so I can't remember exactly how i came upon it. i wonder if there is a trial version when you look at Aperture in the app store?

@paulaag I think there is. Aperture was my christmas present, still learning it's ins and outs but I remember seeing the free trial box on the first screen .
