2nd upload for this question, not sure what happened to the first one.
Anyway, when I open my thumbnail in RAW I'm getting this (see pic) its so frustrating! If I adjust the Blacks slider down to zero its fine, but I like to use that in my images as it helps to give depth. So I'm having to do as much adjustment as I can in RAW then the rest in photoshop. My questions is have you experienced this before and if so have you been able to overcome it?
Any advice will be gratefully received, thanks in advance, Lorraine : )
are you talking about the blueness? that's to show which of the pixels are clipped (i.e. 100% black). You can toggle this on/off by clicking the triangle in the top left corner of your histogram. (After you click it, move your mouse away from your triangle to see the result).
@scatochef You absolute star! Thank you, i'm still learning how to use it and must have fiddled with the adjustments, all fixed now, Thanks to you : ))
you're welcome. FYI, the triangle on the upper right hand sight can equally be toggled to show any highlights that have bee clipped (100% white). this will be shown in red.
@lorraineb RAW is the way forward definitely, the control you have over your shots and processing is brilliant. For reference if you press 'u' on your keyboard it will turn the the clipping on or off (i.e. which bits are 100% black), and if you press 'o' on your keyboard it will turn on which bits a re blown out (i.e. 100% white). Good luck with the RAW and feel free to get in touch should you need anymore help
@scatochef - thanks - just what I needed to know today - I was trying to blow out the highlights in a photo for effect and I kept getting the red warning of course, but didn't know how to turn it off. I was doing just what @lorraineb was - working it to an estimated point and then trying to fine tune it in editor - not ideal.
@godders Hi Paul, I have Light room too, but its another tool to learn, I'll try some images out in it when I have time to play around and compare the two. : )
