I'm thinking about putting structured learning into my photography. I've taken the occasional weekend course and day trip, and while I got some great shots out of it, I didn't really learn anything new that stuck.
I've been doing this for a while and am not a beginner by any stretch, but I think I want to take some structured classes in 2013. The New York Institute of Photography keeps coming up on web searches and reviews. Reviews are mixed...
Has anyone here signed and completed this course? It's an 8-12 month program and costs about $1000. You get access to a "student adviser" you can call any time, your work is critiqued six times and get 30 lessons or so - plus DVDs, help cards etc. They have been around since 1910...
Any and all reviews/advice/suggestions for a structured program etc. would be greatly appreciated.
I have taken classes at the local art college, and then the local art studios. I find that they really help not just with learning but seeing how other classmates do their photos.
I went to this school. It was full of info. I liked it because it was more old school. Not flashy. You move at your own pace. I do have to say some of it was cheesy. But Im glad I did it. Have fun and post your pic along the way.
I researched this site but never signed up. I've heard good and bad...mainly bad. They have been soliciting me non-stop and the last email indicated a discount of $300. If you're really interested and you wait you can save some$$$.
I joined a local college and took a four year course. The main advantage for me of attending classes is that I got the chance to discuss my work not only with the tutor but also with other students. It helped me critique my own work as well as learning from others. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do
Thank you very much! I have a BA, MA Ed and starting a PhD, so the idea of a four year program is overwhelming. I liked the idea of a correspondence course, but maybe I'll keep looking for a program I can complete in a few hrs a day.
