As a newby to both photography and to 365, I have become completely obsessed with looking at other's photographs on here for inspiration, knowledge, technique etc etc etc. I started this mainly to make me use the camera I've got and to get used to actually taking photos. The number of times I've taken it places and then been too embarrassed to actually get it out of my bag, so having to take a photo every day is going to increase my bravery (well, that's the plan!).
Anyway, it turns out that I am developing a little wishlist in my head of bits of equipment I'd like (and slowly beginning to think about what photo challenges I'd like to set myself too). Things like a light box, which I'm planning to make on the cheap if I ever have enough time and a tripod are high on my list, a better flash than the on-camera one and having seen some of the amazing macro photography shots on here, well, a macro lens is at the 'high-cost, high-WANT' end, but will require some serious saving first.
I was just wondering what is on other people's wishlists... it would be interesting to hear from other newbies like myself, and from people who are long-term enthusiasts!
I really want a wide-angled lens for my Canon 600D, a better tripod than I currently own, the latest photoshop, photoshop lessons, oh the list goes on and on !!!
I just got a Sigma 10-20mm for my Canon 600D, next on my list is the 100mm 2.8 macro lens, after that i fancy the Canon 70-200 F4L......but i'm sure i will keep adding to my wish list !!
I cleaned up nicely at Christmas ;D. What I need is more time to get out and play w all my stuff! And a proper in class course on Lightroom would be good too...
My "win the lottery" wish list: Canon 5D Mark III and a full set of L glass to go with it; plus a Olympus OMD EM-5 and lenses for a lighter, smaller alternative to the 5D; plus a Fuji X100S for a walk around camera.
Let's see, currently on my ever growing list I have a better tripod, a macro flash ring, a 400mm lens, a new backpack, an Epiphanie camera bag and some accessories like lighting, reflectors , etc.
to go full frame with a 5d iii or 6d. Fed up with looking at the comparisons but still nervous about undershooting the 5d iii with the 6d or 5d ii and regretting it. I want to shoot more action sport/activities so this is a serious consideration. It would get more from my lenses also.
A better tripod..I think mine is fine, but one of the girls in my photo group thinks it's rubbish.
An ND1000 filter, borrowed one for long exposure and it was great
Wide angle lens....More expensive than I thought, but it's on the list.
I too am a newbie and I was thinking maybe a lens pen and polarising filter, but obviously i am aiming too low so i will have one of all of the above plus a 60mm macro for my nx200. Thanks. When should i expect delivery?
@wardie Haha! Our wish list is much the same! To save costs, I've decided on the Tokina 16-28, AND Nikon now has a 70-200 f/4 with VR III for $1300-ish US. Probably next year I will be looking at the x100. The 105 is also on my list, but at the bottom since I have the 60mm macro.
Unfortunately, mine is a need :( My 18-55mm kit lens that came with my Canon 500D is broken (no idea how, just know that it doesn't focus) so I'm looking at the 17-55mm F/2.8 - just getting up the bravery to splash £700 on it!
Also, I would love a more functional tripod, the Lowepro Slingshot 102 AW that I would actually be able to carry myself, and a couple more filters.
@cally The 17-55 2.8 is fantastic! I would go for a second hand one personally, some really good condition ones available (also check Amazon from time to time, it dropped to £580 over christmas!)
@cmc1200 I've barely had a chance to test it yet, but I still really love it!
oh wishes...I really want a 85mm 1.8 lens for my Nikon and a 16mm lense for my nex camera @northy Im not sure if this helps but I found a course by Photography concentrate ( http://photographyconcentrate.com/super-photo-editing-skills/) quite useful, their are downloadable video lessons on LR
@domstarr It is nice to hear you say that! It's really a toss up between that and the 15-85 f/3.5-5.6, but I think the speed is what is deciding it for me. Definitely waiting until it comes down a bit in price though, as I'm currently able to borrow a 17-85, which will do for now :)
@cally In terms of sheer quality I'd say the 17-55 yes, plus the speed of it is brilliant. It's a bit of a monster though, size and weight wise! The 15-85 has a better range and is still a great lens but I really wanted the speed!
Oh you're all such cheap dates. When i win the lottery I'm going to i) retire and then ii) get myself a Pentax 645D Medium Format Digital Camera. A snip at £6800 :-) I might upgrade my camper van too.
@gabrielklee You'll find with any wide angle that you'll usually be at the widest end! 22mm isn't really that wide, it's convenient but if you are out to take wide shots you'll rarely use it! The build quality of the Tokina is better than the 10-22 because Canon are stingy with their expensive EF-S lenses!
I need a stronger left arm to get past tendinitis and then I'd want one of the Canon full format bodies (prob 5d iii) and someday one of the honker telephotos (600mm, maybe??). . .oh, and the fisheye as well.
OH, and retirement from the PAYING job so I could do the PLAYING job. ;->
My photo wish list includes more time and ability to better organize my bajillion and one images...more ways/places to share my images (and people who want to see them, lol!)...and the ability to travel anywhere and everywhere to shoot!
Im not even out of the need list. A good bag, a 85mm for portrait, a 70-200 stiff f2.8 for secret mission, a macro for... for macro, 2 more cobra flash, a other set of transeiver, a portable softbox, backup body, and... well i think that's most of it.
Anyway, if your looking for flash and transeiver chek out Yongnuo product, i did'nt tried the flash (it's a matter of time) but the transeivers are working great.
Wow, I don't even know what half this stuff MEANS!!! I told you I was only a newby :-)
Have loved reading all these, love the little people @tandem02 , and I guess a few of us are hoping for that lottery win, eh @godders@sjodell@soboy5@fueast
I hope your arm gets better @lyno - tendinitis is horrible :(
And @gwhit123 - the items are free, but require £200,000 for delivery ;-)
For everyone else, I've LOVED reading your responses... I have a feeling I'll be re-evaluating my finances this year!
I have a neutral density filter and a remote control on order. I want to be able to take bulb exposure photos. I think I'm saying that right, those pictures of waterfalls where the water looks all fuzzy. Yes that the technical term for it. I already have a tripod so in theory I'll be all set.
I got my camera as a kit and sad to say the big scary looking lens is still in bubble wrap.
I would like a grey/white card, small off camera flash, and one of those macro lens adapter extension thing (the cheap way) Oh ya! And another photography course. :0)
I'd like a Leica M9 w/ 50mm lens with a Billingham bag to put it in and I'd be happy for life. But back to the real world, a full frame camera would be great, 50mm 1.4, pocket wizard set up, more flashes, 70-200 F4, free film and developing costs for life - that would be crackin, fisheye lens, and having never owned a "standard zoom" would like to see just how helpful they are like a 17-55 2.8...
@onie ND filters are super cheap on eBay, but as for your tripod, don't listen to other people who criticise it. If you think it's fine and it is doing the job YOU need it to, then ask yourself WHY do you need to upgrade it? A tripod is a tripod! When you're out with a big full frame camera with a super heavy zoom lens on, maybe you might want something a little more sturdy, but I'm sure what you have now will be fine. Don't spend more than you need to!
All my little people shots:

@gabrielklee Check out the Tokina 11-16mm, it's cheaper than the 10-22 and most reviews favour it! Plus it's fast (2.8)
The only lens that I wouldn't mind is a decent macro.
Cash injection would help.

I have heard very well about the Tokina, but i think the zoom range is a little poor.

more money to travel around the world and photograph it ..
and followers here ... hahah

only $27,500 and that is with no lenses included, it would be so much fun to play with!!

Oh! And an old TLR, maybe a medium format camera.
Well we can but dream.
