Sorry, but I could not resist

Great steps on how not to watermark your photos.

oh and of course I fall on the side of rarely watermarking unless it is a photo full of awesomeness that I am putting on facebook.

Wow, the comments on that page get a little snarky :) I watermark some and not others! lol

I do agree. There are some watermarks that are just... I can't even focus on the picture because the watermark is so distracting. I know I struggle with this in my own pictures but I try not to make it too obnoxious.

wait... i thought that was how you're supposed to watermark?! now I'm finding out that's wrong?!

In all seriousness, I'm glad I've learned how to be more subtle.

Interesting discussion, I totally beleive watermarks indicate you are proud of your intellectual property and if or those of us who eventually would like to go further in this arena it does put your name out there. But subtlety is they key, I will certainly be revisiting mine and seeing what I can do to make it less intrusive.

@phillyphotos I too saw this discussion on the web earlier .. I suppose it depends on what you are posting your photos for. I watermark all my Images on Facebook, and boldly, as they have the right to sell your images to stock companies. They can still steal it but hopefully it would be too much hassle for them to try to clone it out. If you are happy to share your images then don't watermark, but if you are just trying to show a portfolio to clients and potential clients then, personally I would say watermark away! Just not so that the client can't see the image properly ...

This is so funny! I personally hate watermarks/signatures on photos, I find them so distracting.
