Can I start off by saying I think 365 is a wonderful forum. My query however is why our photos have to be sized so small and whether it would be possible to re-design the page so that the photo (the main reason we are all here) dominate. So often the Comment is - "best viewed large". This surely has to be true of all out photos.
I agree... I think it's fine on the 'news feed' / home page for photos to be smaller but when you actually go to the person's page for that photo, it would be great if the photo was larger and the main focus of the page. Sort of like when you visit a photo on Flickr, it's huge now. Often even when you click to view large, it's not exactly large...just bigger.
What I'd really like would be to be able to click on the photo on someone's page and go straight to "large", which is kind of instinctive as you do this in so many other programs, but instead you're taken to the monthly gallery for that person.
Cost is probably the most prohibitive reason behind not storing higher-resolution files per-se -- Ross no doubt (and quite reasonably) runs this as a commercial venture, and the storage and data transfer costs of increasing the default 'large' filesize from 1024px on the largest edge to something higher like 1600px or 2048px would be significant.
It would be nice to see the current 'large' photo size straight away when we viewed a person's page though, rather than having to click on the magnifying glass, at least on devices with a high enough screen resolution. This would still incur additional costs however (as we can assume that a significant percentage of people don't view the large versions of every photo they see).
Of course, such a perk could be offered to Ace members only, on the basis that they pay for the site, although that might discourage new members from staying long enough to see the benefits of becoming 'ace'.
@Scrivna I know it might be asking a bit much Ross, but how about giving people the option of whether each of their pics are posted on a black or a white background. Is that possible? I often encourage people to magnify mine but simply because the shot looks much better on black.
