Love this - Often walk round there on a lunchtime. Also found the links at the bottom to Spitalfields interesting; I love 'then and now' photos.

Thanks for posting this, I used to work very close to this, but my Granny was born in Brick Lane in 1898, and was a true cockney born in the sound of Bow Bells. I'd love to find a picture from around the turn of the Century.

@nicolaeastwood hi.. Once I'm home I'll dig out some links as I think I know where there's some images from around 1900..

@nicolaeastwood

Thought I knew where some images were, but not so straight forward (when is it ever straight forward lol)

Here's a couple of links that will have some images from brick Lane from the 1900s, but a little more searching is required.. THe second link is from the same blog as above - The Gentle Author - who writes almost daily about Spitalfields life...

@andycoleborn thank you so much for these links. I have a tape of my Granny talking about how she used to.... almost beg I suppose....around Spitalfields market as a child. she mentions some shops I should listen to it again, and contact the blog writer! She had a fascinating start in life, so much harder then than we can even imagine now! Thanks again!
