Help with Canon issues..

I have a Canon SX10 IS point and shoot camera I took to a car show a couple weeks ago. On my way home, I had the camera sitting on my lap in our Model A, windows down, top off, and I was shooting as we went along. I laid the camera down in my lap and well, long story, a bee was on it, and it stung me! In my shock, I threw my camera at the floor of the car.

Now, my camera won't upload pictures to my computer with my cord. When I plug it in, it says error installing driver (which, shouldn't be an issue, it's been installed a long time) and it says Windows has stopped it due to a hardware error.

The camera still shoots fine and I can get the pictures directly off the card, but I absolutely really wanted to get this fixed. Anyone have any ideas?

@lissuhllama - I'd try updating the software from the Canon website (if you can) and see if that helps, but it sounds to me that you may have to just use a Memory Card reader from now on.

My real response would be, time for you to buy an Olympus TG-1. That will survive a fall on the floor easy. I have been well impressed with mine this year.

@bobfoto Thank you so much for responding to me! I really appreciate it. As for a software update I did try that, unfortunately, it didn't get me anywhere.

OOH I'm a loyal Canon user! haha! I had an Olympus once and I really liked it, until I loaned it to someone for an overnight 90+ degree camping trip and the camera fried in the sun! Not even kidding!

@lissuhllama - Ahh the TG-1 can survive the snow, the water, the drop and they say can operate up to 104ºF and store up to 140ºF. Mine lives in a world where it does not get below 80ºF and the humidity is always up around 80%. I had one of the Oly Toughs before and it was okayish, but this one rocks!

Get a card reader, USB card usually included. Plug into your computer and out you SD card in the proper slot. Use as you would any other drive.

@bobfoto Really? That is awesome. Does it take SD cards? My old olympus did not.

@chapjohn Thank you for replying! It's just I've been doing that, but it's so much of a hassle to not be able to use the Canon software.

@lissuhllama - SD card yes. Can you not use the Canon software after you downloaded the shots to your PC?
