My dream lens...

August 19th, 2013
... would be a Canon EF 16-400mm f/1.2 IS USM lens.

... Made out of helium-embedded metal, so that it weighs less.

xD

What is your (actually real) dream lens? :)

August 19th, 2013
same as yours!
August 19th, 2013
@gavincci @pocketmouse i think it would be everyone's dream lens :-)
August 19th, 2013
I'd start with these, and go from there...

August 19th, 2013
Gosh I had no idea there was such a multitude of lenses out there... I'm thinking of getting a macro lens for my birthday to fit my 55mm Sony A330. I don't have a fortune to spend so can anyone point me in the right direction? I dream of capturing amazing close-up detail ....

Would love the f2.8 300mm prime for my Olympus. But at $6999.00 its a lot of glass.
August 19th, 2013
@bobfoto Man that sort of money for a lens just boggles the mind!!!
August 19th, 2013
@pocketmouse - when does a hobby stop being a hobby?
August 19th, 2013
@bobfoto When it becomes an obsession! lol. xD
August 19th, 2013
@pocketmouse LOL! Me too please :)
August 19th, 2013
@pocketmouse - I've spent more on a pushbike! YIKES!
August 19th, 2013
I dream of a 24-70 for APS-C (no full frame cover), f/4.0, picture and build quality like the existing 16-50mm, SSM, from Sony with supportrd camera built in corrections for JPEGs like with other Sony glasses, and small and light as possible (thats why f/4.0). The price should be under 400 €. I think this lens would be my favourite daily used lens, speciwlly for street.

Wishes like the one from thread opening are not possible. Not even if it should cover APS-C only. It would be tooo big and heavy. And with that range the quality of picture would be very very bad. I would never buy such a lens.

@wayoflife I know (I wrote the original post), it was a joke, I was being silly... :)
August 19th, 2013
I wasn't sure about if you mean it serious. You know, in the web there are many people out with such wishes. Not knowing that it isn't possible. Anyway, if it is a joke, you can just ignore my post. :-)
August 19th, 2013
@wayoflife Hehe no problem :)
August 19th, 2013
@mbrunner does such a thing exist?

I'm not sure that I have a dream lens that exists in real life... There are some lenses that I would like to play with (like a mega tele or something) but I think if I won the lottery, after buying a full frame and a few decent lenses to get me started, I'd be wanting to spend the money on travel so I could use it :)
August 19th, 2013
@mbrunner lol yes!
August 19th, 2013
@steampowered Gosh that lens is beautiful!!!
August 19th, 2013
@northy In the real-ish world now that would be cool wouldn't it...win the Lotto, buy a full frame, couple or so of excellent L lenses then travel taking awesome shots along the way :)
August 19th, 2013
@northy If the lottery was big enough, you could do both :D
August 19th, 2013
@pocketmouse Made of helium - nice! ;-)
August 19th, 2013
@northy no - it does not exist - yet. although a while ago i read a research paper that was talking about latest research technology in optics and this was stunning. but will not be in the market within the next decade, if at all.
...and now i have to leave - need to play lottery :-)
August 19th, 2013
@steampowered Me too, it's beautiful, keeping an eye on eBay for old ones like that :)
August 19th, 2013
@abirkill Ditto!! I do really want the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 with Novoflex Canon adapter! I understand it is one amazing lens with great sharpness!
August 19th, 2013
For me it's got to be the SLR Magic Hyper Prime 50mm f/0.95. I can't imagine there would be hardly any depth of field to speak of at 0.95 but that's what I would throw my money at if I could. All those creamy pictures....yum.
August 19th, 2013
My ambitions are somewhat lower, I would be happy with a 50mm f1.4 VR (Nikon 3rd generation image stabilised)

I can't imagine Nikon doing it soon but it is the kind of innovation Sigma seem much more willing to try.
August 19th, 2013
@abirkill I am so with you on that!!!
August 19th, 2013
@northy I agree. I want to travel more to use what I have and then figure out if I don't have the one to get the "bestest" shot.
August 19th, 2013
@janpenny Hyper prime?! Whoa!!!!
August 19th, 2013
@janpenny Just googled it - insane!! I wonder what the "T" means when they use it in place of the "f" number?
