Google FAIL for Nik Software users

October 31st, 2013
Just thought I'd post this here as I know there are a number of Nik Software users on this site. This morning when I went to open Photoshop, I received an error telling me that the file MSVCP110.dll was missing. Photoshop would then open but none of the Nik software was appearing under filters.

After several re-installs of Nik, I thought I had better Google for the answer. What I found out was that Google in their infinite wisdom decided to push out an update to all Nik users, forcing their PC to connect to the internet and download a 400MB update. This was a less than successful outcome as pretty quickly their phone support was inundated with calls.

They have since put a resolution on their website: https://support.google.com/nikcollection/answer/3528247?hl=en&ref_topic=3001406

The fix is to download the trial and install it over the top of an existing licensed version of Nik Software. You can download the trial via http://google.com/nikcollection and clicking on the 'Try Now' button at the top of the page.

Hope this helps others out there.

Tx for the heads up... I'm so NOT in the mood for this kind of challenge right now... May have to take the night off...

This is a better fix: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/310179-missing-msvcp110-dll-file-photoshop-elements-nik-software.html

I updated with the "VSU3\vcredist_x64.exe" file.
Shut down / Restart / CS6 loaded with the Nik plugin intact and no errors.

And Google wants to be in the consumer and business software business? They have a lot to learn.

Aaarrrgghhh, I have just realised that this issue actually caused my computer to completely crash and cost me a good few quid to get restored ... I don't want any more Nik software, I didn't want the extras they gave me when Google bought them out ... sooo angry as how many time might this happen in the future?

@dtigani thank you so much. a while back I got an email from Adobe saying they changed my email because they were hacked. so yesterday when i open photoshop and it said Owl Orphanage: Photoshop. exe can not be found, I thought I was hacked.
I am not happy that i have to go through this bs again because i lost my Silver Efex the last time they made an update. Although i was not happy with the additional stuff that came with it, the Vivenza is pretty cool and i had started to use it..
Yesterday I sat on the phone with adobe for 45 mins and I did not get anywhere.
Thanks for the info!

Thanks for letting us know. I was about to purchase the Nik suite, and think I will hold off until they get their act together.
