What were you shooting in the beginning of your project?

October 21st, 2010
Seeing that we are quickly approaching the end of 2010, and for many reaching the magical number… 365 I was feeling slightly sentimental and I was looking back at what I was taking photos of in January. I also tried to see if I have improved or not. What I found was LOTS of snow shots; it snowed a lot in January in Denmark :) I had actually thought that the pictures would be worse, but they still look like something I could have shot yesterday… But I do think I’ve improved a bit technically, as well as with my post-processing skills :)

SO I’D LOVE TOO SEE YOURS – WHAT WAS TAKING YOUR FANCY IN THE BEGINNING OF YOUR PROJECT, AND DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE IMPROVED?

Here is a few of the shots from the beginning of my project:

Cool thread, Lily :D you've had consistantly lovely shots throughout :)

As for me, I was shooting at the beach a lot because summer was just beginning... but I really hate those earlier pics :/

Day 2:

Guess which day:

I 'spose I've improved but that's not exactly what I set out to do. I was just a dork who took photos of miscellaneous stuff that made me happy. Now I'm a dork who puts a bit of thought and/or effort into taking photos of miscellaneous stuff that makes me happy :)

Great idea Lily. I started out finding it hard to find things to take pictures of everyday and had a few random shots going on. I definitely think I've got better over the year at least in seeing what looks good to try and photograph. Here's a couple of early ones

@indiannie_jones - Thank you Annie :) I like day no. 2!! I just looked through your first month and there are some good stuff there - but I definitely also think you have improved, your shots now are super!!

@rich57 - Richard that lip shot is cool! But you have also improved hugely I think. I noticed while browsing through you and Annie's album + my own, that there are really very few comments on our shots in the beginning :)

@lily Yeah I didn't really get the nature of 365 at first. You know that it's kind of reciprocal and I was actually a bit nervous about commenting on others to begin with! I put that down to never having been involved with an online community before and feeling like an outsider maybe. And actually it was the kind comments from Louise M that eased me into the whole thing. I didn't use to write much in the way of a description either for quite a while.

I have a lot of rainy day shots in the beginning of my project since I started in March. I started out just struggling to get in the habit of shooting every day, so sometimes not much thought went into my photos. I definitely think I've done a good job of changing that.

@rich57 I know what you mean, I did had a little bit of experience from other online forums – especially Lonely Planet’s thorn tree forum, but on that site there are so many grumpy, arrogant and downright stupid people. It seems like many of them are just there to pick fights… So I was really apprehensive about putting myself out there like you do on here 365, but as you all know 365 is all good with lovely people only :) Gotta love this place - and Louise!

@melissapike Love the gumboots – and yes is incredible how our pictures are affected by the weather. I feel like I’ve experienced the changing of seasons so much more this year as I have been photographing it, I love it – it is kinda like getting a set of glasses and suddenly you see all these things that have been right in front of your nose all this time you just never really noticed them before.

My photos have improved a bit, but like you the biggest area for me is the post. i now know how to use PS.

@lily i remember that dogs shot. It was one of the first photos that really grabbed me from your year. I loved it (Still do)
October 21st, 2010
@hednod - I love those two shots of yours Murray!! I guess maybe then you are a bit like me then, not that much improvement - is that beacause we were awesome at photography from the beginning or is it just that our learning curve hasn't exactly been that steep... Ha ha

i was shooting pretty much what was going on that day. :p
which i still do, though i have had some days that are devoted to experimentation.
my shooting habits change from time to time (see caption here: http://365project.org/taleweaver/365/2010-10-05). i recently looked at my calendar and found that i usually really like about half of what i post. from that first month to now, i have had to be creative and i have always made a conscious decision not to post shots that are too similar, but there are still some that are.

here are my favorites from when i started in june :)

this is from day 7

and from day 8

@melissapike wow, look at that flood shot! that's a pretty cool capture!
October 21st, 2010
@lily the shot of those dogs is so beautiful! i have taken a quick look at your project and there are some nice stuff! i saw "A Silent Prayer" ( http://365project.org/lily/365/2010-10-04) among your recent works and had to make it a fave :)
i like to look at a person's entire project so i will have to come back and have more than just a peek at yours! :)
October 21st, 2010
@taleweaver - your day 8 (face) is one of my favs on this site! It makes me smile.
October 21st, 2010
@taleweaver - I remember your day 8! Such a cool find :) Day 7 is really nice too, great dof!
October 21st, 2010
@taleweaver - thank you, looking forward to having you visit my album :)

very good idea Laerke! This is the first picture I uploaded... as many begginers I completed my calendar with older photos. I took pictures during my strolls in Paris yet...

My father says I've improved. I think I'm doing a little better. I'm about 50 photos in (already that number actually shocks me)
Day 1 was of a Japanese Soda Bottle. I had been here almost a month and even today I'm still super fascinated by everything around me.

Day 50
Not really much to say. This wasn't any kind of special shot as it was for "Purple Day"

A better example would be Day 47
I would never have taken this picture on a drive from one town to another if it wasn't for 365. I personally love it, so yes, I feel I've improved.
October 21st, 2010
This is spooky, last night I decided to look through my album as I reach the big 365 this weekend. I personally think my photography has improved, although I am far more critical now of anything I take... I definately know my way around a camera much better and think my 'eye' for a photo has improved...

This was my first pic way back when...

October 21st, 2010
My photos at beginning of the year were random crap from round the house, I've done the odd model shot and would like to do more but night shots and light painting has been the biggest hit for me and by looks of it, others agree too. I'm still using the vast features of my SLR too...this project has effectively, made me go buy one and do a evening college course – so all good.

October 21st, 2010
What started out as just simple reminders of my day have taken a leap into the creative side of my brain. I think it has always been there but I've just let it run it's own course. I still post simple reminders only now with an intent to do something unique with them.

Some stuff from my beginnings on this:

I feel like a lot of stuff from the beginning is better than what I'm doing now...
I was so engaged and excited to be doing this, now I'm mostly bored and just waiting for the end.
October 21st, 2010

this was my first shot, and it's still one of my favourites.
my daughter has been the subject for at least 75% of the days...so it's mostly about seeing her grow up. And when I compare day 3 to this week's pictures i feel a bit sentimental about the passing of time!!
October 21st, 2010
I definitely used to do a little more setup for my shots, in the beginning.

Now I'm more prone to just shooting what I find around me, either scenery or people.
