50th Wedding Anniversary - tips to capture the day

November 29th, 2013
Hi Everyone,

My parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary tomorrow and they have asked me to take photos of the party. I have a general idea on the kind of photos to take but would appreciate any tips or suggestions you may have. They are celebrating with a garden party for 60 people starting late in the afternoon and continuing well into the evening. I would like to create a photo book to give to them at Christmas and of course, being my parents, there is extra pressure to get great shots.

Thanks for your help,

Nic

@nicolecampbell Try not to be to obvious, step back and zoom in. Bet the shots get better as the day goes on. Don't forget to have spare batteries and memory cards. Good luck and try and enjoy.

@padlock Thanks for your advice. I think they might get better after a glass or two of champagne :) I do like your zoom in idea, it was something I was hoping to do.

I've done this for my parent's 60th and 65th wedding anniversary parties. What I found is the best shots were candid where I melted into the crowd and captured natural poses and reactions. No matter what happens, your parents will be delighted with the results so don['t put a lot of pressure on yourself. My parents still show off their photo books to everyone and they are heading into their 68th year together. Have fun and enjoy the day.
