Lightroom 4 not reading jpeg or raw files anymore

December 27th, 2013
Hi all. Hoping someone can help me. I've been using Lightroom 4 for 6 months now with no problems at all. All of a sudden last week it started saying it was unable to read the images I was trying to import. I haven't changed cameras, I haven't changed sd cards, I tried both raw and jpeg format and neither worked. I've uploaded the images using media player on my computer and they have imported fine so I dont think they have been corrupted at all.

Any ideas on what is going wrong? I tried to get some advice via Adobe support but halfway through the conversation they said they couldnt help as they only offered support for Lightroom 5 now!

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

@cazla Try going here and downloading the latest Camera RAW update from Adobe's site. Fingers crossed that's all it needs.

@cazla Take a look at your version of Lightroom, you may need to update to 4.1 as a minimum to continue using it. This has something to do with Adobe's forced compliance of Lightroom 4.1 and Photoshop CS6 being the minimum that will run the later RAW converter engines.

@quixoticneophyte thanks Alexander, I've just tried that but it hasnt worked. I dont think the RAW is the issue as its doing the same with the jpeg files as well. So frustrating, and there appears to be no support from Adobe to help with the problem.

Hi Cazla - not that I can help much since I have not used lightroom - but do you get an error when you are trying to import? what is the error?

@cazla Dare I say it... Uninstall and reinstall it...

I had an issue where Lightroom would crash whilst importing, resolved by reverting back to a previous catalogue. Maybe worth a try
