HELP please.

Just got a new camera - a Canon Rebel T3i. I though I solved the problem but it still persists. Tried to call Canon today and they are closed. I need some guidance please - just took a bunch of pictures and now I can't see any of them!!

The display keeps saying (for a lot but not all) that it "cannot playback image." I have formatted several different memory cards and same thing keeps happening. I am starting to think it's the camera, but I can't even find anything in the manual to help me nor can I find satisfactory solutions on line.

So experts, please help me. What do I need to do? Really ticked at losing about 100 pictures that I took today!!

Did reformat the memory cards in the camera or with the computer?

I'm not sure. I have the same camera and have never experienced this. Can you see them on the computer or is it just the camera display with which you are having difficulty?

Can you take a photo and see it if you put the card in the camera? I use a Nikon so I'm not at all familiar with Canon but that's what I would try first if you have tried everything else.

Oh that doesn't sound fun at all. So sorry. :(

I haven't experienced that so I am not sure why it's doing it.

Have you tried uploading the images to a computer and seeing whether they are still there? This might help you identify whether it is the images, the cards or the camera at fault.

I hope it's nothing major and that your images are still there.

@k1w1 Do you have to use a card to take pics? I mean can I just take pics and then load to my computer??

@obmcreations No - I had some great pics and now the afternoon is just wasted. Really unhappy. :( I have tried uploading them to my computer and I cannot see them there either. I mean there is an icon where they should be but I cannot open them.

@lbluejaye8 With my camera it has a demo mode. If there is no card in the camera it automatically goes in to that mode. Once you turn the camera off you lose all the images. Put a card in your camera and snap a pic of anything. Take the card out of the camera and the put it into a card reader (or a slot on your computer if you have one) and see if you can see the images that way.

It doesn't have any internal memory so if you didn't have a card, unfortunately your pics were not saved. There is a way to disable the camera when it does not have a card in the slot so it doesn't happen in the future.

Press menu
choose release shutter without card
Choose disable

Sorry, that must have been terribly frustrating!

hi Laurie...i have this camera also...are you shooting in raw or jpeg...check the menu button to see...if its in raw then the camera has to be connected to your computer via the canon usb cable...you must also download the canon software disc...if you are shooting in jpeg then you load your camera card into the computer.......when you take a photo can you view it on the flip out screen ?.....

If you have been shooting raw then the pictures won't be visible on the computer without viewing them through Canon's zoombrowser or another program that can convert the files such as Photoshop.

However the camera itself should still show the photos.

hi Laurie....so when you take a photo and you have a formated card in it...you should be able to view the shot on the flip out screen by pushing the bottom left blue button with the arrow on it...

Have you tried using the supplied EOS software and shooting with your camera tethered to your computer? That way you can write images straight to your hard disk. If you can't see them there then you may have a problem with your camera.

I own the same camera. When I plug it into the computer, I go to the 'computer' tab and under 'Devices with Removable Storage' I can see the Canon Camera link. Does yours at least get that far?
