Lightroom Radial filters help

June 11th, 2014
My radial filters don't seem to be working … I know how to use them, this is not a question about that. However maybe a week or two ago, perhaps to do with one of my children swiping little fingers over the keyboard and changing settings I didn't know about, they have stopped appearing as circles on the image. I can still create one, but I can't grab it and move it, alter its shape or angle, or alter the adjustments on an existing filter … all I can do is create another. Fortunately I have discovered that if I right-click I can "Reset Radial Filters" and don't have to reset all of the adjustments I have made to an image.

Anyone know how to get my circles back? I've had a look through various menus and can't seem to find anything ...

I have had some real issues with LR5 with both the radial filters doing the same thing and the graduated filters too sometimes. It happens either before or after a backup sometimes. I have to close out, shut down computer, and restart computer and that tends to do the trick...I thought it was my mouse which really is awful these days. Also, the reset button takes away everything, so just right click on the one that messed up and hit delete from there--that way you don't have to find your history to get back what you did. Hope that make sense! Good luck!

@aliha In LR5 do you see the "New" and "Edit" words in-line with the Mask: label? You should be able to select which one you want. At the bottom there is also a Reset and Close tab. If you hold down the Shift key while making a New radial filter you'll create a circle (like most Adobe drawing commands). Is any of this working for you?

@aliha ....also, on the lower left side of the screen there is a menu to show edit pins....select the one you want to use to show you pins or not based on your editing criteria.

I have an answer!! Thanks for your help guys. As this was one of a few tools I was planning to use to solve the problem … turns out it was google who has saved the day. As I expected, the first several pages of search results were all on "how to use radial filters" but perseverance paid off!!

@darylo Yes, had tried all that and no luck
@mikegifford No, unfortunately none of that worked/was the problem … can you guess how easy it was … (drum roll please …)

The "H" key!!! For "hide". Have a go Mike … create yourself a nice radial filter, press H, then have a go at trying to edit it! Impossible!! Everybody keep this in mind for next time someone has this problem! :)

@aliha Yikes, its in the "Tool Overlay" menu for Never Show. I would never go there...but an accidental push of the key......ugh....good find for sure! Google saves the day!!!
