I currently use picnik. I was pleased with it for all regular photos I take, but when I start to like the portraits, and want to edit them in neat and new ways, I find I am stuck, with not much cool effects to do on portraits, at least for the depth I want to get into.
So I was wondering, what photo editors do you use?
Also, a picture of one you have edited (preferably a portrait) as an example would help me out a great deal.
Thank you!
I use Paintshop Pro X3. I have used paintshop for many years, so I really like it. I think it is easy, but there is a learning curve. Not too expensive either.

Thank you! I checked it out and turns out, $40 is right in my ballpark! I downloaded the free trial, and if I like it I think i'll buy it!
I use Photoshop CS, and occasionally Picasa and Picnik. They all have their benefits and advantages... kind of depends on what I want to do. Photoshop is the main one, however. I bought a used version that is a little older... so it wasn't as expensive. I would love CS5 but can't come close to affording the price tag. Photoshop Elements is affordable and is geared specifically toward photography. If I didn't use Photoshop for my design work as well, I would probably use that.
I use Photoshop CS3 for most things. But if I am just doing a crop (or something else very simple) and nothing else, I will use the edit tools in iPhoto to save time. While I was on vacation earlier this year I used DigiKam on my notebook, It is a great, free program but it is only available for Linux (I avoid Windows as much as is physically possible). I was able to do everything I do in Photoshop with it, and it has a similar layout which I thought was nice.
I've got an incredibly old Paint Shop Pro 7 which I use for special stuff like this, but for general processing it's Lightroom 3 all the way. I use that for every single photo these days.
Also, traditionally, PSP has nothing on Photoshop.
i've been using Paint Shop Pro for around 12 years now and stopped at version 9 ... in the early days i did a lot of tutorials so i guess i know a fair bit now ... i also have Photoshop CS4 but i feel like a beginner with it lol ... slowly teaching myself and now find that each program does "special" things the other doesn't so i switch between both when doing heavy editing :))
I use gimp, kinda like photoshop (I'm told), but free. You can get a free trial for most of this software online, so you can try it before paying if you want.
I use Picnik for pretty much everything. I have PhotoShop, but I don't use it much.
As for an example, here's a self-portrait I did recently in Picnik:
Microsoft Office Digital Imaging Suite. It's older but still works well. They don't support or sell it anymore because I think PowerPoint 2010 can do most of the same things now. I like it because Photoshop overwhelmes me. Someday I'll make myself learn Photoshop but there's no need right now.
Mostly Photoshop and Lightroom CS4 with a variety of plugins. I see some really cool stuff done with Picnik, too, so I'd like to check that out a little more. Gimp?? I'll def have to check that out!

I also use the adjustments in Picasa and XnView: http://www.xnview.com/en/index.html
