The (Photo) Gift Worth Giving

December 18th, 2010
Anyone giving any photos as gifts this year?

I gave the one below to a coworker (actually, not the exact one--the one she got is in sepia and not cropped).

This is the Survivor Tree, so named because it survived the April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City Federal Murrah Building Bombing. It was on the same side of the building as the bomb and took a lot of shrapnel/debris. If you notice the three taller arched windows behind the tree, you'll see the one where my current coworker was sitting behind-the one on the left. She thinks the tree helped save her live. She suffered a traumatic brain injury and months of rehab, but it took some of the blow that sent her 10 feet across her office. She was later married under the tree. It's very dear to her.

Anyhow, she loved it. She hugged me. Twice. It's nice to be able to use photography to do something meaningful for someone.

Yes. My mother-in-law is getting this in a 12x18, framed in a lovley wooden matte frame. She has always had a love of elephants and recently we were at the zoo for a Christmas party and I got this photo of the new elephant calf "Ongard". Yours is a beautiful story :)

@taidster I bet she'll love that! What a neat idea.
@jo365 I love the baby elephant--so cute! What a sweet gift.
@becky_tamm As a former teacher, what a great idea! Thoughtful, homemade, and NOT another food gift. :)
@whitwhit The museum is really incredible and well done, but I understand that it's not for everyone.
@bcurrie I have thought of that, and i do have some other photos there that I think are pretty good. I need to ask my friend-I believe she is on some board related to the museum.
I completed the half marathon this year and am pondering the full in 2011, but since I focus time on pictures and editing now, I might be stretched to even get back into shape for the half! Incredible experience.

Thank you all for your comments!

My best friend loves hot tea . . . I'm printing this out in multiple tints and framing it for her Andy Warhol style . . .

A picture is worth what?? That all depends on whose heart it touches, and what it might mean to them. I have one of my mother that passed on a few years ago, and it is a most valuable possesion of mine. A photo gift can be a GREAT gift

I have had three different photo books made at shutterfly.com as gifts, and the recipients have all loved them!! One was for my mom, and it was full of touching memories,as well as current family pictures. Another was of a friends two year old daughter. All of the pictures were natural, unposed and fun. She also loved it! The third was for my son. It was a collection of pictures of him and his girlfriend. Pictures seem to capture a memory in time that has great meaning to someone, thus making it a wonderful, thoughtful gift.
