Mysterious Fav's

December 23rd, 2010
Someone fav'd 3 photos of mine in the one day so naturally I wanted to thank this person & clicked on them but a message came up to say that this person's site was not available. I have tried in the last 3 days to view this person's site - his photo & name is on the email that was sent to me to notify me that he made my photos a favorite. He must have been on 365 and deleted the account or still is but I just can't view his 365 site. Is there such a thing as blocking in 365 so you can't view people's sites? Has this ever happened to anyone before?

the only thing similar that i've seen is when i was looking at one of the "Official Top 20 Chart - Week #" pages and there was a photo thumbnail not showing ... i clicked the link and it said the page no longer existed, or something similar. i would assume the person has deleted their account. strange that they'd only just been fav'ing your pics and then deleted though. maybe they shut down for the holidays lol....lower the emial or something?? a thought anyhow :)

They must've deleted their account
December 23rd, 2010
What Annie said. Thats the only logical explanation.
December 23rd, 2010
They are cyber-ghosts,haunting the website.When they "fav" your photo,they mark you and obsess over your photos from the dark depths of Purgatory.. forever....and ever...and ever...
December 23rd, 2010
@spaceman you're one sick puppy that makes me laugh ...
@miraries agree with the other except for the spaceman ... reckon they deleted ... bugger wish they'd fav mine then I'd be 'popular' LMAO!
December 23rd, 2010
@spaceman LOL. Agreed.
December 23rd, 2010
@taidster @indiannie_jones @hopeless @misschuff well that sounds like the logical explanation but still it seems strange - would they have only signed up & gone through 365ers accounts & faved the ones they wanted & then deleted their account for whatever reason. @spaceman @itszaiii I think you've been watching too many sci-fi movies or the X-Files. LOL!!!

well there's another possibility, though it is a very remote one.

a few months ago there was this person who posted amazing photos several times each day. there were photos of snowy landscapes then on the same day she posted almost 'ringside' photos of the world cup in africa. the pictures she posted did not have any EXIF data. one day she posted a cute kitten pic that made it to number 2 of the weekly top 20, when another 365er ran her pic through a photo-verification-website (forgot which) and found out that the pics she posted were not hers and were just stolen from the internet.

so long story short, Ross banned her and her profile was never to be seen again.

again, remote, yet possible. :D

Wow, that is amazing stuff! some people would actually go through that to get some sort of fame through 365 or other photo sites.. It's like stealing intellectual or creative property isn't it? I have seen people put watermarks on their photo & I have often thought whether I should do this but I am just an amateur. Does this actually stop them? The photos that this person had fav'd were ones that made it to the popular page - so I wonder if these photos will appear somewhere else in his name? LOL!!!

Could check the Flickr site as may have copied and used for that? Watetmarks do help if there was an investigation. The thief can crop your photos to cut off the watermark but if you needed to prove they were yours - you have the originals, and you have the camera to prove where they came from. All digital photos leave a trail.

@nellycious
Wow,that`s quite a story!
You gotta be really lame and have no life whatsoever,to be so desperate and sink so low,for "online fame"!
I`m glad Ross "took care" of her.

Ok,off I go to FlickR,to find a photo for my "365" shot of today ........ just kidding :)
December 23rd, 2010
hmm I heard whisperings about this but never found out whether said person was actually passing the photos off as hers or whether she was just posting them as "gee i really like these photos... this is my photo of the day"
December 23rd, 2010
@miraries @jillpearce @spaceman @toast
i was thinking the same thing. well it could have been an innocent mistake...perhaps she had a different idea about the 365project and thought that this was a site where you can upload photos (you found on the internet) that you really liked every day for a year. ("like facebook, but instead of statuses, you post pictures!") :D
December 23rd, 2010
@toast
Weng,it doesn`t matter any more.Remember the ending for the movie "Casino"? .... *whispers*...the Boss took care of her,the same way....
December 23rd, 2010
@spaceman Assassination's the fastest way.
December 23rd, 2010
@toast there was another recent one who was posting shots she supposedly taken, but they were stock photos from a web gallery. she's gone too.

@miraries if you are wondering if this person has indeed "taken" your shots. go to tineye.com. you can run your pics through there and it will tell you where else they pop up on the internet.
December 23rd, 2010
@andiejaye thanks for that info.
December 23rd, 2010
@spaceman Would that be a photogeist? In cyberspace no one can hear you scream(OK, on Skype they can :)........ but if they hack your comp they can watch your screen. Now that's scary!
December 23rd, 2010
@robv
Yeah,Rob,and the only way of fixing it is to exorcise it. But then,the priest would splash a lot of holly water on it,and the computer might break.So it`s a lose-lose situation...
December 23rd, 2010
Miriam, just had a thought about this: one of the regular contributors and commentators to this site very recently withdrew his account for his own reasons, very suddenly. Could well be him. It happened without any real warning.
December 24th, 2010
@miraries Miriam, I think your mystery fav'r is my mystery follower. No pictures to go with the account. Does have a very short profile, which is longer than mine. Probably just not ready to dive into the project head first. I'm curious what type of photos they'll post. I'm not really suspicious....I've had 2 followers recently close out their profiles & the favs on my pics went with them.
December 24th, 2010
i want a mystery follower.
December 24th, 2010
@andiejaye thanks for that info @girlie the plot thickens could it be the same person with initials A.D. @molizard sounds really sus though @stepheesue it is intriguing @nellycious yeah that was real awesome stuff you revealed -didn't realize this sort of thing happens.
December 24th, 2010
@miraries No, the person I know about has different initials; so different person.
December 24th, 2010
@spaceman LOL! Truly the only rational explanation :-D
December 25th, 2010
@spaceman do you think the cyber-ghosts lurking in the 365project cyberspace use only sony cybershots?
December 25th, 2010
@nellycious Most of them,do.It`s their way of torturing themselves in the fires of hell. But the most evil ones do get full-frame DSLR-s,from the Devil himself...
