Today I was shooting and my nikkor 70-300 mm 1.4 lens broke. It catches at 200mm when going down from 300mm. This is a brand new lens. I got it on July 3rd of this year. It struggles to focus and sounds like a rain stick if you turn it upside down. This is exactly what happened to my old 55-300mm 4.5lens but I had that lens for 7+ years and used it hard! Anyone else have his problem? Thoughts or comments are welcome!
1.4? The only 70-300 AF-S lens I know is the 4.5-5.6. Are you sure it is not your camera? Dirty or bent contacts. Other AF lenses are OK? Discuss it with your vendor and yes, return it.
@dianen Diane, I have one of these I use on my D7000. It is the 4.5-5.6. Mine works very well and I've had it for a couple of years. I don't shoot the D7000 that much since I shifted to FX (D810). I would discuss with the vendor as recommended already and check on getting it repaired, and also check the camera.
@frankhymus Oops my bad. It is the 4.5 (I wrote this quickly last night!). Quite sure it's the lens my other lenses are working fine and no issues with auto focus. I was more wondering if any one has was having this issue. I'm hoping it was just a fluke and not a design flaw in the zoom.
