How to use ACE member PicMonkey to create a collage

March 31st, 2016
I would like to create a collage with seven columns for the pictures I posted for the Rainbow challenge. However, my free PicMonkey, Ribbet, Picassa, etc.softwares don't have this option and I don't want to have to purchase software for a one time project. I thought maybe I could do it with the PicMonkey version we get as ACE members. However, it looks as though you can only use it to edit single shots--not to create a collage. Does anyone know how to get around that? @scrivna? Thanks.

Hi Sandy @skstein,... maybe it would just be ok, to adapt a sreenshot?
Beautiful Rainbow Month by the way. Very well done.

@mona65 thanks so much for doing this, but how do you adapt a screen shot? I wanted to put all the shots of the same color under each other (that's why seven columns) to be able to get the rainbow effect. The software that you don't pay for only lets you have four columns.

@mona65 oops, I'm just noticing that the colors are under each other in the shot you made. How did you do that? Is there a way I could move the first column up and then just delete the few extras so I could get a rectangle?

@skstein A screenshot is nothing else, then a "capture" from what you see at this very moment on your screen. In my case, you hit Shift and the Print Screen Button at the same time. Now you can insert this "snapshot" in whatever program you use for processing. I meant by adapting, that I removed the numbers from Feb and April, and you could add a title or so. Doing mor is possible, but a bit difficult, there is an easier way... and now, as I understand that you would like to have a nicely square picture, I would go like this (there are different ways and workflows): Transfer all the pictures from this month, you would like to have in the final pic, in one folder. Open Picasa, mark all those pictures. It would be good to have 5 x 7 pics if you add 4 pics (or 4 x 7, if you remove 3 ). Then hit the collage button, choose "raster" and add with + all those 35 pics. Depending on format you choose, they look square or rectangular. You can also adapt the frame between the pics. Try what you like best. By drag and drop, you can move theme around as you please. At the end just hit finish collage and here you are. Looking forward to see the result. Have fun!

@skstein Hi Sandy! I created mine using Picassa. Here are the steps I followed:
Select the 28 photos you want to use from your library. (7 photos each week for 4 weeks), then on top next to File, Edit, View etc, you will see create, select Picture Collage. On the left hand side of the screen, you will see the collage settings tab, on here the automatic setting will be grid. Leave that in. Under that, there is the Page Format menu, on which I clicked 5:3 Widescreen Photo Frame. For me this automatically arranged them in 4 rows of 7 photos each. Then I shuffled them around by click on the photo and dragging it to the position I wanted on the collage, so that all the reds were in one collumn, followed by orange etc. Let me know if you need any more help!! Hope this works!

@mona65 thanks, Mona. I had tried putting all the shots in Picassa, but the free version, which is what I have, won't let me have more than four columns. I will check again and see if I can find that "raster" option though. And thanks again so much for taking the time to explain and do all this for me. I really, really appreciate it. :)

OK, I'm having trouble with when you click the Pickmonkey to try to edit something on my sight. It starts to go to the normal thing then all of a sudden goes back to the list of photos everyone has put up. it is making me very frustrated AND I can't seem to do ANY collages. Anybody have any ideas?

@sailingmusic The version of PicMonkey that comes with ACE membership doesn't seem to show the collage setting but if you Google PicMonkey http://www.picmonkey.com/ and open it up outside the 365 project you will see that across the top it has Edit, Touch Up, Design and Collage, click on Collage and it gives you various options.

@mona65 @dishaparekh176 @sailingmusic @judithdeacon Thanks everyone for your suggestions. In the end, what I did was to add all 31 photos from the Rainbow challenge to Picassa. Then I selected Create Collage, grid setting, and 5:3 Widescreen Photo Frame (as suggested by @dishaparekh176) and cropped off the 8th column. It seems to have been a very roundabout way to get what I wanted, but I'm happy with the result.

@skstein Well done Sandy. I'm very glad you found a way to work around and have avery appealing result. I will now remove the printscreen from your month, from my files and from above.
