I love the Dummies manuals, they're almost always at a local library and they're super easy to understand.

I have been using photoshop for several years. I find the easiest way to learn is with tutorials. They give you step by step instruction. If you have the time, check out Kelby Training. Some of the tutorials are free. (Otherwise a $19 per month subscription) Also, NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) is a great resource. You can belong to the group, about $99 per year, which will also get you Photoshop User Magazine, and other resources/tuts online. If you have a better book store in your area, you might be able to find Photoshop User Magazine there as well. I have been getting it for years and look forward to finding it in the mailbox!

I have photo shop but never used it ....

Google searches help, specially if you're looking for a specific instruction (ie "how do I make a border in photoshop") but general ones work too like "10 photoshop tips"

Always remember to work on a copy, you can usually always undo unless you're somewhat dense like me and tend to forget and overwrite files, or forget to save after working for an hour and just randomly close the photo

PhotoShop scares me.... I need to get over that fear

I also have PhotoShop but have not used it. :- [ One of the members on 365 "Jinx" is starting some tutorials in his 2nd album. I just discovered that yesterday. Search for his name and follow him - I can't wait to learn this program myself.

I'm very new to Photoshop myself (maybe 6 weeks) and have found Google/YouTube to both be wonderful resources.
I do want to find a good book or other instructional resource. I have learned the "how" of certain things, but want to know the "why?". OK, I'm OCD and I need to know the "why?" and hope some additional resources will help with that.

There is absolutely NO need to spend money on subscriptions to learn photoshop. There are hundred of websites out there that can help, along with forums like this specifically for CG manipulation. One of my favourites when I was learning is http://www.good-tutorials.com/tutorials/photoshop I'm not sure on it's current content however, but a bit of messing about using the tips and wotnot provided will get you most of hte basics under control.

You have to pay for it, but trust me its well worth the money. I have been using it from day one to learn all my software skills.
