I am thinking of starting a local photography book club. What are your suggestions for a book that would be good in a book club setting? The book could be about composition, how to make photos to look artistic, photography techniques, or a combination of these (or a different topic).
I have enjoyed reading:
"Learning to See Creatively" by Bryan Petersen (about composition)
"Creative Nature and Outdoor Photography" by Brenda Tharp (landscape)
Both are well-written, and rely as much or more on the text than the photos. I tend to buy out-of-date editions from Abebooks, and these can be very good value.
I would recommend 'Creative techniques of 100 great photographers' by Paul Lowe ISBN 978-0-500-54462-4. Extremely interesting, comprehensive and very inspiring. Got a copy from my local library and liked it so much I bought a copy. Good luck with your book club
Anything by Michael Freeman gets my vote. Also I have found you can pick them up second hand via Amazon so the library can expand. Always thought about a different form of club where there isn't any competitions just help and friendly discussion. Good luck with it.
I have some Photo Workshop books: Nature Photography and Composition. You work through it with an assignment at the end of each section.

They do have the benefit of selling for less than $20 each on amazon.com.
