What editing software do you prefer to use?

I've been using DigiKam with Linux for several years now. The windows version seems to be ok too. It's not a professional tool, but it's free.

LOVE Photoshop. Have used it primarily as a digital painting canvas for the past ten years or so, have only recently discovered how powerful it can be as a photo editing tool. Very cool stuff. LOVE... despite the pricetag.

I have used gimp in the past. Now I only use Photoshop. I have CS5. You can get PS at a discount if you are a student, teacher, or have a child that is a student.

I use Photoshop Elements 6.0. I'd like to play around with a full version of Photoshop someday, but for now, Elements is more then enough for me. :)

im a paint shop pro X2 lover :P

I have PS CS4 which is what I mainly use but have also used PS Elements 8 but that kept freezing my laptop and for some reason wouldn't let me uninstall. I have PS Lightroom too but find it weird compared to CS4. Also have PSP 9. At the mo I'm in between computers and getting a new one soon so not using any software except Picnik online which I love but will add my software when PC comes. Was thinking of getting PSP X3.

How does it compare to PS CS4 or should I upgrade to CS5?

PaintShop Photo Pro X3 is what i use.

Paintshop is my program, I've used it for a fair few years now.. in the begininng it was mainly to make my digital scrap pages. That was using PSP 7. Aah so long ago! Used that program for ages and now on X3.

My first PSP I remember using was PSP 7. I think that as the one with Animation Studio. I used to create my own sparkly pictures with it.

Just had to edit, it was 7 not 9! Whoops.

Haha.. sparkly pics for me too! Blinkies, clone & blended banners, glitter stuffs.. aah back in the day haha.

I use Gimp and think it's great for what I want to do, which isn't much so far, but it'll let me do anything Photoshop can do. :-)

@lilbumblebee ~ paint shop pro 7 is where i started .... i remember being over joyed with xi ... then was treated to X2 which i love :)

I remember when it changed to corel and it was a big let down for me. Put me off it. Want to give it a go again though.

@foursides it is good to understand that with Adobe's "student" software there are limitations on the software. "student" versions cannot be used to produce commercial work. "Educational" packages however do allow usage to produce commercial work.

Photoshop & Lightroom

@girlfriday Yes, I failed to add that to my post. I am loosing my mind today going on day 3 of being snowed/iced in. :)

@foursides I hear you lady! Thought it might be useful for others to know, I totally lost a gig due to having the wrong software a few years back. SO disappointing! :)

I primarily use Photoshop Elements, if I need something it can't handle I use GIMP (GIMP has a looong learning curve, but it is free)
January 11th, 2011
Lightroom for 90% of things, and Photoshop for the rest. I'd pay $1,000 for Lightroom if that's how much they charged for it.

Lightroom seems to get a good rep but I just can't get my head round it. I can't do in it what I can in photoshop. Maybe I just need to learn

I used Adobe Elements 4 for years....just recently upgraded to Elements 9 and LOVE it!

I currently use Aperture 3 for the majority of my post processing and Photoshop CS4 for anything Aperture can't do.

I've also used Lightroom 3, Gimp and Photoshop Elements. I must admit, the noise adjustments in Lightroom are better than Aperture, but there are some excellent plug-ins that get around that issue and I don't generally need to adjust for noise too often anyway.

Picnik.com (: untill i've got photoshop figured out!!!

Lightroom 3, and Photoshop CS5.
January 12th, 2011
Picnik, because it is super user friendly!

Another LR3 fan here!

For most of my basic editing, I just use F-Spot. If I need (or want) to do anything fancy I use The Gimp
January 12th, 2011
I've used Photoshop for a long time, but I find I'm using Lightroom more and more these days.
January 12th, 2011
I've tried Lightroom.. wow confuzzling! Haha, for me anyways. I might get somewhere if i tried a bit harder maybe. But for now, I'm comfortable with my x3.
