Next week my partner and I are taking a four day trip to Liverpool. It's my partner's idea as he is a big fan of the Beatles so I guess that's top of the list. I don't know anything about Liverpool more than Beatles and football so I would love to get some suggestions what to see or do.
There's the waterfront which is good to see - all the museums and attractions are down there. Then there are a lot of parks - Sefton Park is particularly good. It's also close to the coast, so you can get to the beach at Formby or Southport fairly easily and quickly - in my opinion Formby is better than Southport :)
Also, St George's Hall and square, the big central library is good for photos... I lived there for 3 years and it's a great city to wander and explore
Anthony Gormlys Another Place (iron men) on Crosby Beach are a must see if you are in that area. Crosby beach is to the North of the city and it is 100 iron men spread over the beach all looking out to sea. Fabulous!
I think the Walker Art Gallery is wonderful. It is small enough to be enjoyed without stress, but there are quality paintings there, a Rembrandt self-portrait, an El Greco, and "The Martyr of the Solway" by Millais. But my favourite is one of two paintings of the death of Nelson at Trafalgar, juxtaposed in one room. The boring one shows a crew that is universally heroic, white and male. The other, also painted in the early Victorian era, looks like a more realistic portrayal of a ship that has been raked by enemy fire, and the crew includes children, women and black sailors. Makes you think about many things.
@ingajohansson The Baltic Triangle is a great place to wander round - loads of street art (great photo opportunities!), lots of re-purposed buildings as bars & restaurants. I have to give the place where I sell my photos a plug - the Red Brick Hangar in Cains Brewery Village, Stanhope Street - an independent indoor market - over 50 traders (attached to a fab vintage warehouse) - that's where most of my photos get taken!! Come & say Hello!! :)
@carolineb7 This sounds like an interessting place to visit, I hope we will have time to come. All the suggestions make me realise that four days isn't enough.

There are many places in the centre that you can visit for free, like the Tate and Walker Art Galleries (special exhibitions cost extra), the two cathedrals, and many of the museums: http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk https://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-liverpool
The Town Hall is offering a special guided tour on Wednesday 11th (it costs £5.50): https://www.liverpooltownhall.co.uk/events/guided-tour-4/
The Ticket Quarter website also has a guide to events: https://www.ticketquarter.co.uk/online/default.asp
I hope you both have a great time :)
