I'm a newbie here and as well as getting to grips on the buttons on my camera, I'm also trying to learn the lingo. I have no idea about how to critique photos and end up saying things like 'This is a great photo!'
To start off with what's sooc and dof? I could probably google it but thought that there may be some tips you can give me!
@niccrowley - sometimes the most constructive form of criticism (or compliments) are the simpler things like "I like the way my eyes are drawn to the horizon" or "This photo gives me a sense of serenity/peace/fear/ add emotion here".
Many, many, many of us here are learning everyday and comments that come from others which evoke emotion or connection can often reinforce back to the photographer that "yes, what I wanted to achieve is what I got!"
I think understanding the lingo will certainly go towards a better understanding, especially when the talks tuns to f-stops and focal lengths and ISO. But sometimes the simplest words are often enough. I know I always appreciate the time taken by others to take a look at my humble images.
I'm glad I know what SOOC stands for now, thanks for asking! I kinda knew from those good ole 5th grade "context clues" that it meant an unprocessed image, but now I'm glad to know the acronym.
sooc: straight out of camera, no processing
dof: depth of field
pov: point of view
pp: popular page
umm....try and think of more! welcome! gonna check out your pics!
depth of field ( the amount of area in focus - in front of and behind the sharpest point - in the frame)
ahhhh things are becoming clearer now! Thanks!
lol!
