January 27th, 2011
went to a car club meet today with the intension of taking some pictures, Grab brand new packet of Duracell batteries out of my drawer (bought 2 days ago) and ran out the door. Now before I get told off :) i have rechargeable on there way to me!!

Got my trusty camera out with new batteries inside it and checked the temp on car (tells out and in)

got 5 minutes if that out of my batteries and focus was out as well batteries died on me

They now work as camera is in room temperatures so had to be the fact it was -3 out tonight!

So is there any batteries out there that work in cold weather?? or is there anything i can do to stop the power going due to the temperature

batteries run out quicker in the cold - it's just the way it is. take spares!

Lithium and bring lots of spares in the deep cold... nothing to be done about it..

When I've shot in cold weather I've kept the batteries in my pocket and loaded them when I'm taking a few shots. Then, back in the pocket. I've also had batteries go flat and managed a few more shots out of them by sitting them in the sun and, once, by just rubbing them in my hands really fast for a couple of minutes.

Keeping the batteries warm is an important thing - this applies to every kind of batteries.

However, I've noticed Sanyo's Eneloop batteries are really good even when it's cold outside. I have only good things to say about them. I actually recommended them in another recent thread which is located here.
