Just like there are no new stories, just new ways of telling old ones: there are no new pictures, just new ways of taking old ones. A photographer friend of mine once said 20 different photographers can shoot the same thing at the same time and you will get 20 very different pictures.
I just shoot what I like and what I find interesting. If it happens to be "unoriginal" in the big scheme, it is still original to me and as @sallycheese said, I will have put my mark on it. Also, just like painters can learn to paint by copying the masters, there in no reason you cannot learn to be a better photographer by copying those you like.
My only advice is ...... don't pick a subject. Let each day present the picture. Take pictures of what interest you each day. Throw in some challenges to mix things up and before you know it the year will be done. And if you have some off days, do the WWYD editing challenges. We are on #3. No picture taking required. ;-)
I started shooting anything inside my room and definitely you will find out something that will caught your attention when you view it, and your imagination will start on how you wanted this subject to come out.
just shoot anything in any angle you want and you will be surprise that there is always a beauty out of simple and dull subject. Then explore .
Hey I decided to stick to using something I took each day. You don't seem to have a problem! Just grab a shot when you haven't time to plan........I have a dog who will model any time, I have things that I like photographing and then you can picture a picture...from TV even!
Take a shot a day, what im doing (since this is my first year starting the project) is working on my technique these first bit of photos. There are a lot of how to's on here (and most people will tell you how they took their photo) and/or you can go to http://www.digital-photography-school.com/ and they post weekly assignments that you can do for this, and they have great tips even for beginners! Some people also do a theme a week, maybe try that! Good luck!!!
angles. There are many items that we regularly look at and take images of, but often many of us compose it as if we are standing and looking from natural height. Not all but many. Try changing your perspective, stand on a ladder, lay on the ground... Get closer than you would normally feel comfortable at. Look outside the square.
I take photos of things that mean something to me even if they are random household objects lol, i love macro shots as i love to view the detail in things. Also go outdoors - take a walk and take in natural beauty its amazing the things you can capture. Most of all have fun - i am crap at being over-creative LOL
Leslie, every time we click the shutter it is a unique image. Don't worry about originality, when we click the shutter we are painting with light, let the light paint for you. From what I've seen you paint with style.
All of the replies in this discussion have been extremely helpful, thank you again. This is a great community of people who are willing to help each other out! Glad I decided to create a project, I would have missed out on the great people and fantastic creativity!! :)
no topic has been untouched ... only the way you present it.
Tips - study those photographers you appreciate and try to emulate their work - won't be able to easily but you will 'see' in a manner differently to before.
