I know we have a few on here doing it with their parents. Our 11 year old is quite creative and we discussed him having an account and taking the pics on his Ipod to get started.
Anyone mind sharing their kids albums (I totally understand if not as there is no PM facility) so that I can show him contemporaries work?
How often do your kids tend to upload, does the interest wane?
ohhhh this is an interesting topic as i know my 12 year old son might also be interested but i dont know if he will stick at it so as yet i havent let him
lol same here my 9 year old son loves photography my sister gave him her old 5mpx camera and he adores it i've been teaching him how to use the setting on there and fair play to him he's taken some cracking shots!
@flamez I know I ponder whether it will be a whim especially as it was us who suggested, I have said that maybe he could aim for weekends or every other day.
@lisahutchinson Thanks Hun I shall show him their work tomorrow, I will get him doing the uploading, he is better at 'pooters than me!
I think this is an excellent idea for young kids. Let them take pictures of whatever, whenever. If they don't do it everyday, well, that's fine. Just remember to brush your teeth twice a day.
Encourage them when they do, so they feel like this can be part of their daily life. Everyone can benefit from seeing the world from a different point of view. Those minds are buzzing with ideas that need to be taught to be used!
And I would encourage parents to discuss the pictures kids and the parents themselves take. Compare what you take and what they take. Teach them!
Well my 13yo son wants to do it, I suggested to him that he can take a photo a day and we'll get him sorted with an account. So far he's taken about five photos in the last fourteen days, lol.
If he wants an account he can have it but I think he is losing interest as he's finding it difficult already.
My brothr is 11 and his is here: http://365project.org/edward/365
He's prtty good at uploading :]
I think 2 of his friends are doing it too but don't upload as often.
while we are on this subject does anyone have any recommendations for a good ,tough little camera for small people without falling for the vtech branding? i want to get my daughter a little camera that she can "play" with but don't want to spend a lot as she will only be 4 but i would like it to last and be for photography so don't want the games etc that come on a vtech
These two are both 12ish years old (first year high school) They don't upload all that often but when they come round they like using my SLR :p I guess they don't have as much support with it at home as they don't have a family member helping them out anf they only have phone cameras/point and shoots.
My son started 365 about a week ago. I guess if he was always going to be with me when I took my pictures he might as well take some too. He uses my old Canon point and shoot. I'm excited that he trying it out. I really like that he has to work on his writing when leaving comments which are strictly supervised by myself or my husband. Here's his profile: http://365project.org/sabertooth/profile
I think the key is if your children have the desire, let them participate but I do like @lisahutchinson doing the uploading so that she has the ability to monitor their account if necessary on who they follow and who follows them.
I remember when I was a child I had to take modern dance, but after the series of classes ended, I wanted to try playing softball. I think it is good to encourage them in an activity they are interested in but have a review period (two months) to decide if it is an interest and a commitment they are interested in continuing.
Yey thanks for the links everyone.
Its great that so many kids have been influenced by parents and elder siblings, I think we shall see how into it he is this holiday and leave him to decide once he has the tools to upload etc etc. We will both be able to monitor him as we are both on here at different times, plus he is a sensible kid used to rules on forum etiquette already . Fab idea giving kids cast off cameras I think there would be a fight between me and Hubby who got to upgrade LOL so shall see how he gets on with the ipod first
Both my daughters were doing this project, but my older one lost interest after several months and deleted her account and my younger one has kind of lost interest. Here is the link to my 8-year-old's Project, though. She still posts every so often: http://365project.org/unicornsocrazy/365
My daughter age 6 started the project this week. Both my kids love photography. I try to make a point of taking them on a Camera Safari once a month, and we've done it since they were about 3. Now that I'm on 365 my daughter wanted to join with me. She really tries to take a picture every day, and I do the uploads for her for now. I like knowing I can supervise, but she has to think about what she wants to say. It's becoming a family event each evening deciding which photo to upload and critiquing each others shots. Lot's of fun for us. My daughters excited to find other kids on 365. Here is her profile http://365project.org/shutterbugbaby
I've been thinking about it for my 2 also, esp since my friend's (@lisahutchinson) kids are doing it. I know they want a camera of their own and they've been asking for a while now so thinking of letting them use my p&s for it
I've been posting about my granddaughter's interest in my project. She is 9 and I've been thinking of getting her a camera but didn't know if the project would be appropriate for her. Glad to see this thread.
@indiannie_jones Oh I Loveee paint the moon - i follow her on fb didnt realise she was on here... but yah a 4 year old with an SLR not a chance in my house... the only camera Lex (4 year old!) is allowed to touch is the shock and water proof one!!
I've considered starting a 365 for him actually... might just...
This has been really interesting, sounds like we have talented spawn! Thanks for all the links and thoughts, sound like we will have an army of mini photographers!
@flamez Brilliant! My Boy is on a computer Ban at the moment (punishment, coz I'm an evil Mama) as soon as its lifted (Monday if he plays his cards right) I shall show him all the links.
i know @lisahutchinson may have a reply :)

Great initiative to helping them grow!
If he wants an account he can have it but I think he is losing interest as he's finding it difficult already.
@indiannie_jones Oh she took some lovely pics, cant believe a 4 year old can handle a DSLR! Thanks for the link
@pete21 Lol 5 is good innings! I suppose nothing is lost if he did do it, I'm sure there is a massive drop out with adults too.
He's prtty good at uploading :]
