I'm pretty new to photography but I plan on making it my career one day and newborn photography really interests me. I was wondering if you (as the photographer) prefer natural looking shots or posed (such as Anne Geddes)?
For my baby I prefer natural but I think the posed are super cute...
do both, posing a newborn is not easy, takes patience and practice and lots of patience! (i know i said it twice)
will depend on what the parents like too, although parents usually like ANY photos of their babies, doing ANYTHING!

I think I prefer natural photos or 'naturally posed' if that makes sense. As Ria has said most parents will love any photos of their children providing they are done well. I had some taken of my son when he was 3 months and had just come out of hospital but the lighting had been off and they were all overexoposed.
Much prefer natural, this is one I took a week or so ago that I love. More trial and error involved, but when it works I think the results are much better.
I mostly photograph newborns, and I love getting them in all funky poses. The parents usually prefer those as well - they are my biggest sellers printwise.
I also prefer natural - the 'baby in a basket' look is a wee bit overdone in my opinion, but then, a lot of people like it so if you intend to do child/baby photography professionally, it is useful to be able to work to your clients' wants. Also depends on what the baby itself is amenable to, some babies will happily be posed, others, not so much.
I don't have many really new shots of my babies by themselves - I was still a bit shellshocked following the birth to be able to really shoot them properly. But I do have some beautiful shots of me wearing my daughter at only a few days old in a wrap.
This is my most recent favourite of my daughter (just 8 months old)

This is what I mean by naturally posed, my son was about 6 months here so not a newborn (despite being about newborn size!) so I know these poses won't be suitable for you but it might give you ideas.
