So I got my camera earlier this month and it came with a Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS lens. It is a great lens for portraits and up close photos, but I really want to invest in a good telephoto lens so I can take pictures of wildlife. I am still learning all the terms and everything for the more fancy cameras and I am not sure what I need. D:
I don't have the money to spend $400+ on a lens, though I hope eventually I can. But for now, I just want something that works well, but is on the cheaper side.
I have a rented lens right now that I got from borrowlenses.com. I think that's a great way to try out lenses and see what you might want to save up for! I'm playing with a 10-20mm for landscape, and I just love it. It's a really cool website, they have pretty much anything you could ever want in a lens, and the prices are very reasonable.
I have a Canon EF 75-300 mm lens. It's not the fanciest thing ever but I'm usually happy with how the photos turn out. It doesn't have any image stabilization so in low light you have to use a pretty high ISO to get a high enough shutter speed to make sure there is no visible camera shake, but for the price it's a pretty good deal.
I know that in England, the 70-300mm IS lens costs about £350, while the other option (which I went for) is the 55-250mm IS lens for £150. I can't review the 70-300, but the 55-250 has served me well for what I have been doing. I use it for a lot of the animal shots I've taken.
I have a canon 55-250 and I am happy with it. Like you, I don't have a lot of money to spend. I got mine (new- not used) on ebay for about $200 I believe.
Here's a link to it on Amazon, and I definitely agree with @sdpace try renting a lens before you buy it to make sure it's just what you need.
