Help!! Mac users, editing

April 5th, 2011
I am devastated as some of my recent photos seem corrupted and won't print and I can't work out why. I have never had trouble before!!

I have a Mac and I edit in iphoto and picnik as I have always done since starting this project. I recently upgraded from a Canon 400D to a 5D Mark II and with this bought a new 32 GB compact flash memory card which I formatted before I started using.

The photo sessions that I am having trouble printing from have a mix of pics that will and won't print. The ones that won't print seem to be edited pics but there are some that have been edited that will, they seem to be the b&w that will print but further editing seems a problem. I just can;t understand it as I have edited this way in the past.

Is there any info here that will give anybody a clue as to the problem as I will be heartbroken if I can't print out a couple that I really love!!

These are some I can not print at all. When put on a USB and taken to the photo shop the computer read them and brought them up on the screen but when it came time to send the chosen photos the computer jammed. When put on my flash card and inserted to my selphy home printer when it got to one of these photos it would turn itself off??

Help!!

My first thought is to uninstall and then reinstall both your printer and picnik. It sounds like a print driver problem or something wrong with the software. As for the images that won't print, have you tried exporting them as jpegs and then try to print those exported files? Just a couple thoughts. Good luck!

Picnik is on the internet and the printer is a seperate printer not connected to the computer and it also didn't work on the printing booth at the photo store. I did try emailing them to my e-mail and moving them onto my flash card from there with no success. I will try exporting. Thanks for you help Cindy

iphoto keeps the original file unaltered, revert if you have to and try editing again. Go to photo in menu options, revert to original.

@robv I have reverted it back to the original but it will not print yet a photo taken 2 seconds before this one, that I have not edited will print so there was no change in the camera settings at the time I took the photos. @cdford have tried exporting and this still didn't work. I exported it as a jpeg file and also tried exporting it to a kodak easyshare program that is in the computer. Thankyou both for trying to help

Hi @jo365,

My partner (an IT person) suggests opening the image in an image processing package (Omnigraffle, Photoshop - anything that handles multiple image formats) and try saving it as something different - e.g. GIF instead of JPG. This can sometimes get around corrupted images as the different formats sample them differently.

How big are the files?

It sounds unlikely, but have you managed to convert them to 16bit files by mistake? I've found this can limit the options as to what you can do with the file.

I would go to/or call the Genius Bar at Mac. They seem to know everything and I am sure they can fix or explain your problem and it is free. Good Luck.

@alia_801 The files of the photos above are 5.1MB 2.7MB 4.1MB and the others would be in a similar range. @alia_801 @sburbidge @jobesekama thankyou so much everyone for giving me some things to try. I will have a go at these suggestions tomorrow and see if anything here works. Fingers crossed!!
