The Fatty Story - from Beginning to end.

Fatty's Short Life
16th January 2011 to 2nd April 2011
He may have only lived for 10 weeks, but I enjoyed hime while he was with us.....

The Fatty Story Part 1
JANUARY
This is "Fatty" Here is fatty (right) with his sibling when they both first fell out of the nest (18th Jan).
I think they were born on 16th January.
There may have been more babies as this mother had four chicks the last time.

The Fatty Story Part 2
JANUARY
Then I found thier nest (25th Jan)
Given the size of the nest, she may have only laid two eggs.

The Fatty Story Part 3
FEBRUARY
And here is Mum, Dad and Aunty all feeding Fatty (15th Feb).
Sibling #2 seems to have disappeared around this time.
And I think there may have been no others.

The Fatty Story Part 4
FEBRUARY
On this particular day, fatty was in the tree and Mum & Dad were fetching food for it, so I got some good close shots until Fatty took off leaving Mum & Dad in the tree looking confused.

Fat Boy getting fatter.

This is Mummy and Daddy with Fatty moments before he flew off.

Mum looks most concerned (about me under the tree, I suspect)

This is Daddy just after Fatty had flown off.
The look on his face is almost "What the...?"

The Fatty Story Part 5
MARCH
Haven't seen fatty at all lately. Will have a hunt for him this week, suspect he's been abandoned to fend for himself and he may be the considerably thinner bird I saw collecting moths off the windows this morning.

The Fatty Story Part 6
APRIL
Fatty found!
Not so fatty now, he has lost weight and is learning to survive on his own. I managed to snap off some great pictures of him this morning. Just as I was sitting at my computer looking at them, he was back. This time he was getting closer and closer to lucky dog, asleep on her day bed. I could barely believe my eyes as he inched closer and closer to lucky. I was not sure what he was after. I'm convinced the bird was just curious and coming in for a closer look. The bird was about three inches from Lucky's face and I was enthralled but cursing I didn't have my camera. Lucky must have sensed movement, and sat up breifly and fatty shot sideways and up into the pine tree, peering out between the branches waiting for her to lie down again. As soon as she did, fatty came back to the verandah. By now I had my camera and fatty was heading for the dog kennels. I could not capture him in front of the dog kennel that Tiny was lying down in. I have neer seen such a curious bird! He flew off somewhere and I came back inside. Saw him a third time prancing around the garden where it was all dug up to get the spa in. I will be keeping my camera close for the rest of the day.

Not so fat, he has lost most of his bulging Crop
"This searching for food on yer own is exhausting!"

Hmmm what do we have here. Fresh floating bees, yummo.

Mmmmmm these bees are waterlogged, but very sweet!

Oooooh grubs!

What do we have over here?
Oooh more crawly things!

He's turning into a handsome lad.
Glad to see he is fending for himself.

Fatty's Gone
R.I.P. FATTY
I found a very small, scrappy-looking noisy miner-bird floating face down in the yabby pond on Friday.
I was afraid it may have been Fatty. As I have defitiely not seen him since and have seen most of the rest of his family, I can only assume it was him. What he was doing in there when there are heaps of bird baths and water dishes around, I don't know.
I could not bear to photograph him, it didn't seem right.

The photo is the bridge in the Leschenault Estuary in Bunbury, which I took about a year or so ago. It was the most fitting photo I could find.

Post Script: 15th April 2011
Have now seen all the rest of his family, but no fatty.
Seems odd that the week fatty died, Tiana gave birth to four new lives.

Requiescat in pace ("may he rest in peace") dear Fatty.
Welcome to the world - Charlie, Carrie, Cha-Cha and Curley.....

Signing off for the last time on the matter of Fatty.

Awwww I have been following your Fatty story......how sad. Just love your tribute picture and your chosen quotation. Good to see new life with your pets. How fleeting life can be. I posted something on a similar theme today...fleeting life.
