Photography Accessories & Tools

What are some of your favorite accessories and tools for your camera? The item could be anything from lens cleaners to photo bags to lens cap holders to tripods. I'm looking around for potential things I might need as I grow in this craft and would like to have some things in mind when I shop.

My one favorite is the Crumpler camera strap. It's well padded and formed so it fits your neck well. I've also been able to wear it across my body.

What's yours?

I like my macro filters. I can't afford to buy a proper macro lens yet, and these have done really rather well. I must admit I am looking for a new camera strap, as my canon one rubs my neck and I have to wear it under a hood so it doesn't hurt so much - not good for when the summer hits!

I got into gadgetry a couple years ago. Now I have 3 camera bags I never use, a lensbaby I never use, Extension tubes I never use, lens diopters I never use, 2 expodiscs I never use, diffusers I never use, and backdrops I never use.

All that money wasted could have bought me a nice lens, which I would use.

The only thing I do use is Eclipse E2 sensor cleaner. Otherwise, I jaunt all over with 2 cameras and 2 lenses in my pocket. What else do you need?

A tripod. The single most important accessory you can have.

@otprofsp ... I heart anything on Etsy. Just might have to indulge. Thanks!
@moncooga ... Your "never used but have" tips are awesome. Good to know what's maybe not necessary.
@marubozo ... Yes, the tripod is one of the things on my list. Any recommendations for a brand, model?
@gavincci ... intro to a new brand. Thanks!
@cally ... Love my crumpler strap. Fits my neck comfortably with no rubbing. Check it out.

My Black Rapid R Strap is probably my best accessory: http://www.blackrapid.com/

My many nicked glasses cleaning cloths...

My big old speedlite, because it's indispensable and fun...

My camera bag, it's a weird old star shooter bag with eight compartments and little pockets for everything I need, I even have alkazeltser, painkillers and plasters in it... For injuries and waking up in the wrong house...

I barely use my tripod but it's damn useful, even if it's missing pieces, it also goes way taller than most and isn't plastic :)

I have one of these light diffusers that attach to my speedlight. Like it!

The tripod thing is arguable to me, not that I am looking for an argument. They have their uses on occasion, or for special shooting like 360 degree shots with special mounts, long exposures, and some studio shooting for example.

Cameras nowadays, with image stablizers, etc, have negated many uses for tripods. I have even found that if I am doing exposure bracketing if I do an occasional HDR shot, I don't even use one anymore.

I have 2. One is heavy and durable, and expensive. hardly use it. One is light, and cheap. If I have the rare need for it on a walkabout, you can bet that is the one I am dragging along.
