about some WEDDING?? LOLOL. Okay, 4:00am was a little early for me to get up to watch here. But this begs the question, were any of you THERE? Any paparazzi among us?
On the day of Diana's wedding I escaped to France and I would have done the same this time but my passport has expired, so I just went for a quiet walk by the river near my home and enjoyed the solitude.
i would have loved to have taken shots of the crowd as @rich57 just said BUT the wedding its self is of no major interest to me to be honest .... obviously in the uk its a decent time of the day so yes i admit its been on the tv in the background but mainly just cos i wanted to see what her dress was like :)
@rich57 ~ i think the street parties would be pretty cool to take a look at , but nothing like that close by to me .... theres a big party thing going on in st andrews thats about 25 mins from me but damn no transport , id have liked to have hit the streets there today as i know the people there are going mad for it lol
I would have loved to attend.. My daughter was singing at the Quad in St Andrews today for the Scottish celebrations..
Though we do have one guy amongst us who was attending.. I hope he managed to get some cracking photos ;o) Fingers crossed.
I don't mean to be rude but what's the big fuss about the royal wedding? I mean,I get it,it's important for british people,but c'mon,why should I spend my day watching two people,normal human beings just like us,having a royal wedding..
Jeez,even watching the Tour De France or hell,even watching a Formula One race (wich I NEVER do) sounds more interesting...
Certainly for us over in the UK, it is our Royal Family, so it's a big event! William is really very popular (much more popular than his father), and this event just has the ability to lift people's spirits. Princess Elizabeth (as was) got married just a few years after the end of WWII while the country was still in rationing, and it lifted the nations spirits! She even paid for her dress herself with clothing coupons she had saved up. Its just one of those things that bring people together with the street parties and camping out on the streets in London. And the wedding itself looked absolutely lovely!
I would have LOVED to be there!! Escape the boring everyday routine and get a chance to photograph a history moment! Then I'd go tour England, sounds fun to me! :D
@indiannie_jones The whole of the street thing in London was open to the public. It was just a matter of going where you wanted to go. There were parties and big screen in Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square which were free if you wanted to. I don't think anyone had to pay anything.
Haha I was either looking up phone contracts or revising at the time but I got the day off school! xD Tbh, I feel kinda bad for them. I mean, it's not like they asked to be celebrities, they're just normal people getting married and there's so much fuss over them!
@indiannie_jones
...he's also a decent actor,have you seen him in U-571? He looks rather ... (trying to find a more masculin word to define handsome...) ....good in that movie!......... :-p
Must confess this event holds little interest for me, and I'm quite sick of hearing how "Americans are fascinated with the royal family." Most people I've talked to have the same feelings I do. The media, however, goes for anything sensational and when they find a few people with a fascination, they make it sound like EVERYONE is. I get so tired of the media's over-exaggeration all for the sake of ratings.
There were plenty of Americans who came over here just to be in the crowd outside the abbey or palace. Americans DO eat it up. Always have. Not everybody of course, but a substantial amount.
No way would I go to London to be in the crowd but I did watch it on tv. I think William is an okay guy, but I'm NOT a royalist. Personally think the royals should be fired from their non-job.
I have to admit, I think it was beautiful and I loved waking my daughters up at 6am to crawl into bed with me and watch the "princess wedding" The look on their faces when they watched was something I will forever charish. I was my daughter;s age when Diana and Charles got married and it is one of my earliest memories. The fact is, it is history. And it is sweet to see young, simple, and beautiful love. It is nice to see something like this on the news to balance out that sadness and suffering in the world. I do not think it minimalizes it...it just gives us all a break from it.
@spaceman I think the fascination in America is that we have no real history of one family ruling or monarchs. Our Presidents have 8 years in office and they come and go. I think we all gush over the history, the pagentry, the customs, the Disney ideal of marrying a prince, and many woman want to see the dress, the hair and jewels.
I wouldn't get up at 3AM for my OWN wedding (were I ever to do that again), I'm certainly not going to rouse myself from a peaceful slumber to watch someone else do it!
@gavincci That little girl with her hands over her ears was hilarious!!
I wasn't going to watch it... but I am a sucker for frocks and had my mum been around, she was a right royalist and I would have loved watching it with her and I kind of felt she was wagging her finger at me!! So I ran to my next door neighbours and watched it with them just in time to see her emerge from the car. It was amazing, whatever your feelings about royalty and I'm not a great enthusiast. However, this must be the very first royal couple that were truly in love built on a foundation of friendship. It was a joy to see. Our Cathedral looked stunning, the service, though overly solemn, was beautiful and horses and all that pomp was magnificent and no-one does it with the military precision that we Brits do. Apparently 2 billion people watched this globally. I doubt that any other wedding would draw a similar crowd so it was good for GB PLC. What I can say is the streets were not so densly lined as they have been for past such a events and I doubt that we will see anything like it again.
@dejongdd I agree that not all Americans are fascinated with the Royals. I think *some* Americans are fascinated and that the media does hype it. However, I love the thoughts of @cohare and @brumbe regarding the wedding. I wish the Royal couple all the best and truly hope theirs is a marriage built on love, respect, devotion...you know, all those good things. :)
@cazink Great street view, Carly!! I love all the colors, the flags, etc.!
Thanks for your replies, everyone, even those of you who turned it into a political discussion. ;p Love you all!
I'll be honest I wasn't really bothered about the weddign until Friday morning. I decided to watch a little bit of it whislt playing with the children and I suddenly felt really emotional.
I felt excited for the 2 young people getting married, royal or not it is a huge day in their lives and I wish them every happiness in the future. I also started to feel a wonderful sense of celebration and happiness with so many people celebrating which only increased when we went to our friends garden party.
I normally don't get excited about these sort of things but to me yesterday did feel very special and I'm glad I celebrated it with people I love.

I am of the mindset that if I don't know some one personally it doesnt matter to me if they get married. Its not my business.
@michelleyoung That sounds fascinating at St. Andrews and the Scottish celebration. I hope she did well and had a wonderful time.
@richjane77 LOVE your pic!!! Nice!
