Addicted To Editing!

June 7th, 2011
Just recently started editing my photos and now I'm finding it difficult to get back to SOOC. I feel like editing is cheating in a way, as you don't have to start with a particularly great shot in the first place, with just a little sprinkle of fairy dust on the computer and voila! Anyone else got the bug? ... Show me your Edits vs SOOC...

EDITED

Most of my pictures are edited for color adjustment and contrast but that's about it for the majority of them.

@miley89 I love that first SOOC, excellent work!

I don't add or remove stuff from the pictures, just because I'm not patient enough hahaha. But I mess with the brightness and contrast and use actions and such.

Where do I start? Most of my shot are edited. Even with a great camera, that will pretty much wash the dishes and mind my kid, its still hard to get those "professional " looking shots.. thats mainly because most often they have been through the edit wringer too..
Take this shot for instance.. Im not really this blonde.

and in this one.. I really didnt have Botox in my lips.. I was just going through my Angelina Jolie phase..

and in this one, my eyes arent really this dark..

ok so in this one my eyebrows are this thick and hairy, but my nose isnt really that big....

and this one , well what can I say, aside from swapping the color its pretty much SOOC..

I always edit my photos. I am learning to love my sooc's more and more but really LOVE to find new fun ways to edit. I create all my own actions in photoshop so it really is not cheating too much. lol

@nikkers !!! That last one made me snort my coffee. You look like a beautiful ostrich.
Okay, but your title freaks me out because I'm afraid of werewolves--and they always werewolf Little Red Riding Hood, darn it.

I really enjoy looking at SOOCs like the ones from @jannaellen @clarissajohal @asrai @dmortega and many more. I don't see editing like cheating, I see like more work, I see like art, I could be doing something else instead of editing a photo, but I have so much joy doing it. Some times I even paint over the photo to do my editing, and is that cheating? I don't consider. Taking a SOOC is awesome, but ignoring that we live in a digital era just doesn't make sense to me.
I am pro photography, digital, analog, manual, automatic... and much more.

@alecio I love your HDR, Alecio. And the first photo of you and @cary is very cute (:

@alecio --- Your editing is top-notch and is really artistic. I love your creative mind.

@miley89 Thanks so much! That was a suprise hit!

@alecio Love the Atlas pic!

Up until recently, I very rarely edited and if I did it was a quick press on the 'autofix' button! I'm now an editing convert and find I'm spending more time doing online tutorials and editing some of my old shots than I am actually taking photos!

I took the decision to make my 365 project all SOOC, anything I edit goes into my second album. I'm not against editing, I am just trying to improve my photography for now. I'm not overly patient either, and get frustrated with Photoshop! lol!

Haven't got many lol!

I just went through my whole entire project and realized I don't have a single SOOC. Some way shape or form my photos have all been edited. I don't think it is a bad thing. I love my pictures :)

My main project is entirely sooc. I made a second album to include edits. Here are a few of my favorites in each category.

I do not like this SOOC religion thing.... Photography have always been about developing a film in different ways to get the right feel, and then hour after hour in the darkroom with different papers, different exposure, dodging and burning to get the right finishing touch. The great master all did extensive pp work on their photos. You may all be familiar with the great master of landscape photography - Ansel Adams. One of his most famous works are called Moonrise and asking price for a signed copy is about USD 300.000 - and this is not the SOOC version lol. Here you can see the master himself with the SOOC version on the left and the pp version on the right - its like two different photos. What do you think ?

June 7th, 2011
It's not cheating. Before the digital era photographers have always edited their pics by playing with the development. If they would have had the tools we have now, they would have used them, I'm sure! It's just a question of finding your style. You can do very slight editing for a natural look, or very graphic things, it's different but still art.

I won't say all of my photos but 99% have basic editing, levels and maybe cropping... but to me this is just my form of developing.. @scatcat @lindholm
