photography name

November 29th, 2011
hey everyone!

basically i want to make a page for my photography.. but im stumped..
i need a nice catchy name to go with it.. and since you all are very creative people i thought i might put the question to you...?

does anyone have any ideas of what i could call my photography??

(feel free to go have a look at my current photos if that will help)
thanks!

Uhm...erm...gonna need more than just a few photos though! I can't really tell. What is your focus? What do you shoot? Where do you shoot?

iJess
iPic
iPhoto
iGallary
iShot

Sticking an "i" in front apparently sells :-)

@jasonbarnette - haha yes sorry.. realise i havent given you much to go off! umm so my name is jessica, i live in sydney australia, i do really enjoy shooting close up macro shots and occasionally wildlife or portraits - so i just dont want to make the name limitting at all!

@andycoleborn - thanks heaps! thats got the ball rolling a bit :)

@andycoleborn --- That may be true for now but keep in mind this naming convention is making all the names look alike and none really stand out. She needs something unique that will stick with her for years to come.

@jardika3 --- You can certainly just pull a name out of a hat but it won't mean anything unless it means something to you. People will ask how you came by your name. I agree with Jason. What are you showing people on your page? What is the purpose of your photography or your page?

I used to my name, plain and simple (even though my last name is nowhere near plain and simple, lol). I do portrait type work, and mostly photograph people, and I thought just going with my name (Cristina Eenkhoorn Photography) sounded most professional, and it will always be fitting even if you change what you you are photographing. Of course, if your focus is on something other than people, like nature or journalistic or wildlife, then perhaps something more creative would be fitting.

@jardika3 I work in marketing/PR/branding - it is important, as others have suggested, knowing the general purpose of your page, but it's also important to have some idea of its future purpose. Do you have plans to pursue photography professionally, even if it is in the future? You don't want to have built an online brand/reputation/name as Jardika3 Photography if you're going to hang up your shingle as Jessica LastName Photography, for example. Just another thing to think about. :)

@dmortega I was being sarcastic :-)

@jardika3 OK...now I've got something to go on haha

Close To You Photography
Close Up Photography
Up Close and Persona...nah sorry I can't even finish that one!

I completely agree about not limiting yourself with a name. Why not just Jessica's Photography? Insert last name where appropriate?

I really don't know what else to suggest. This is like asking us to name your first child!

November 29th, 2011
@andycoleborn --- Good! ;-)

thankyou all so much!
i do think its important to have my name in the title.. as i want it to be simple and professional and always appropriate!

I went with my initials.

I went with Photography by Laura Wheeler since I shoot a wide range of stuff, from horses, to wildlife, to portraits. It doesn't allude to one specific genre.

@beautifulthing tears in my eyes laughing so much
November 29th, 2011
I went with my initials (sort of) - DDJ Images.

@andifree I've come up with a name for my own photography too - Shelly's Shots O' Sh*t. Or Stuff. Depends on how family-friendly I feel like being that day. :)

I did the same thing as @laurawheeler. My Facebook page is Photography by Autumn Eden with my website at www.autumneden.com. My name is unique enough that it stands out and I like to photograph a variety of things so "Portraits by..." or something similar would not work for me. =)

"Jessography - not just a photograph, get a Jessograph!"

Ummm, I'll try again later.
November 29th, 2011
@jasonbarnette . can you name my second child please.. I like Carbuncle for a girl and Obtuse for a boy... what do you thing??

Aussie Aperture...
JessDownUnderPhotography....
November 29th, 2011
@jinximages I like that - Jessography
November 29th, 2011
I think the "Photography by ..." -name is a safe choice, it has a certain "pro" feel to it

@autumnseden I thought your name was just an "artist name" when I saw it the first time. One of the coolest names I know :)
November 29th, 2011
How about Jess Station. Just a thought ...hmmm pregnant silence.
November 29th, 2011
I feel ya! When I started photography 'business', I named my business Ohmydarlin Photography. Then I did a boudoir session, and it felt silly putting Ohmydarlin watermarks on those photos. So I dropped it, and now I just put my actual signature on all my photos. On my business cards it's just my signature with the word photographer under it. So I guess I don't really have a business name??
November 29th, 2011
@janmaki Not an "artist name"...just pure luck!!! I scored massively when I met my husband! =D
November 29th, 2011
@ellida Hahaha! I've missed you, Graham!! :^)

I LOVE the concept of Jessography, thats cool and unique!!!
I named our photography business Best of Luck Photography because of how much I love the symbology and it doesnt limit me or my husband since we work together!
