Happy New Year agimos! I was giving thought to all the newbs joining us this month, and wondered how dismal my project would be if a 365er hadn't shared picnik.com with me in the first week of my project? Some of us are SOOC fanatics, but others of us (like me!) get vast amounts of joy out of editing our pics! So, here's the assignment. Take an SOOC (straight out of camera, or completely unedited) shot, process it in picnik.com (free to use, BTW) then go to "frames" and add the "before and after frame to your pic", then share it on here by uploading the photo to your project, and then copying the code in the share box to the right of the pic (underneath your tags). I'm curious to see just how much editing you all do and let's help the newbs discover tis amazing free tool! Here's a simple pic that I didn't edit too much to start the discussion off:
I love this thread. Picnik is the only editing software I use...it's the only one I really understand! My son describes it as photoshop for pre-schoolers. This is the shot I uploaded yesterday to my main album. I did various things to it as well as making it into a B&W image. That's the joy of picnik though. Try something and if it looks naff undo it and start again :o)
Happy New Year! Great idea for a thread. I dabble with photoshop but haven't had enough time recently to get stuck into it. Picnik is great for the quick fix and when I'm bored :-)
here's my recent epic fail I edited with picnik to try and fix it
Oh. LOL!! Well, it seems like a religion for those who are totally against editing of any sort, but everyone's different! Either way, as long as your having fun, it's all good! :-)
Had edited this one yesterday - lots of cross processing at different stages and used focal zoom set at difference mode!
I love trying to get my camera to behave the way I would like it to and paying attention to my composition, so can see the fun of SOOC and will give it a go this week. Have thoroughly enjoyed playing around with editing though and it just adds another fabulous option!
Did this one a while ago and included it in my project. I really wanted to get rid of the messiness under the trumpets and create a more solid background. Also thought the colours could be more interesting.
cropped, underexposed, increased shadows and vibrancy
@clumsylawyer Nice one! Most cameras seem to drain the colour out of life a little...but you've done a brilliant job with the bike! Cinemascope is cool too, but only works on so few photos..looks great here though!
@tabbycat Thank you so much for this thread. I am new to the project and totally new to the idea of editing. I was feeling pretty despondent comparing my SOOC with all the amazing photos being uploaded by everyone else. Many of them seem so silky and clear compared to mine which just look 'digital' if you know what I mean. I wasn't sure if I needed better lenses or not, though my Nikon D5000 should be good enough. Feedback would be great if anyone has time. But anyways you have given me hope!
@joannapayne Welcome to 365!!
By 'digital', do you mean 'noisy', pixellated? That's usually caused by not enough light, which can be fixed by a longer shutter speed or larger aperture. I've never been able to fix noise in picnik, except to cover it up with a texture, which works sometimes. You also get really funky frames and textures from www.pixlr.com/o-matic
If you saw my SOOC pics, you'd be horrified! I take crap pics, but I edit well! I've had eleven months of using picnik on a daily basis to teach me! I haven't seen your photos yet, but if you want any critique, just post them in the critique discussion threads for people to critique or tag me in your pic and I will come look at it. Glad you're here and enjoy!!
@tabbycat Ah, I didn't know about the critique thread. I might have a look. And thanks for the tagging option. So far I've only posted SOOC pics I'm pleased with. Maybe I'll post a terrible one today and ask for help! I tend to shoot on 'auto' still I have to confess...
You know what? I've always wanted to do a collaboration with someone! Totally optional, but if you want, send me a pic that you're stuck on, and I'll process it how I would do it and send it back and see if you like it? If you do, I'll tell you what I did to it, if not, no harm done! If you're keen, email me a pic to tabbycat97520@gmail.com I think that would be fun!
